The sea was everything she loved. And the sea took her. She can remember the wonder of the first time she saw the sea. The Scarred Wasteland had been all she knew, endless expanses of blight and waste. When she came to the coastal town and looked out across the stretching waves, boundless, glistening beneath the sun, she was utterly lost. The sea became her home. She took to life aboard the ship well. Her stout limbs found their sea legs quickly, and her thick fur delighted in the seaspray which sparkled, glistening, among the strands. She loved the smell of the ocean breeze, the feel of the sun on her back, the camaraderie among the crew. They were her family - and more of a family than any she had known among the lands of the Plaguebringer. They came from many lands and many species, but they were bound together by the love of the open ocean. She swore herself to them, to her ship, to her sea. The sea was not without its perils. She learned to wield a sword, to keep a sharp lookout for other sails on the horizon. Attacks by competitors were alarmingly common, other crews looking to steal a bounty which they had not rightfully earned. She lost friends, and made new ones, and fed the sea with the blood of her enemies. And as she spilled her own lifeblood into the waters which she loved so dearly, she swore her revenge. She swore to never rest until that which had killed her was slain. But it was not her wound which claimed her life. It was the sea. The sea, which filled her lungs to bursting. The sea, which pressed in all around her, smothering, confining. The once comforting boundless depths of the water swallowed her whole. And at the end, struggling, thrashing, she found no joy in their depths - only fear, and hatred. The sea took her. The sea spat her back up. She drifted for time unknown, washing ashore on a distant beach. Her ship, her crew, her family - all gone. Only she remained. But she was not as she once was. The sea had taken her, but it was her dying oath which bound her. Revenge - revenge upon the very sea which she had once loved. But how can revenge be taken against a force of nature? Undying, she roamed from ship to ship, forsaking the touch of the water. The smell of the sea breeze was now a hateful thing to her. The feel of its droplets upon her rotting fur brought her only disgust. And the sight of it, stretching from horizon to horizon, only mocked her. Her life. Her death. Her eternity. Time passed. Fur fell and skin rotted, until only bone remained. The Scarred Wasteland roamed the sea along with her, hungry for revenge. Bound to the sea…and forever at war with it. ~By MythDancer |
