xxxxxxxxxxxxxx The world is hazy, the laughter of the crowd echoes but is not heard, and the dancer does not feel bliss. As the music swells into a lilting melody she twirls, sending a spray of gold silks into the air of the watching hall, but their eyes are distant, trained on her but not watching, as if entranced by a force beyond her control.

She is cold, limbs aching from years of dancing, but her body moves and leaps and dances regardless. Her mind is foggy, neither conscious of herself nor her surroundings, nor how long she has been dancing for. Images flicker in her mind, rotting wood, tattered banners, pale ash- but she forgets them as soon as she recalls. A scream resounds in her head, belonging to nowhere and no-one: and just how long has she been dancing for...? Where is this...?

A soft smile graces her lips, as false and hollow as the world surrounding her but masked by the sweetness of a golden veil. Her thoughts are beginning to fail, her memory of the past forgotten and drowned by a deafening melody and the soft clinking of golden jewellery. But the dancer cannot bring herself to stop, instead convincing herself that this is reality, this is truth, this is bliss... 		Tallow Candle
