Justice was born from a lonely egg, in a single nest, in an empty cave. All around the hatchling were the tattered remnants of the previous dwellers, rotted cloth, and spoiling food strewn about the floor. Far in the back, the corpse of a female Obelisk lay, half-buried under the rubble of a partially collapsed wall. A terrible fight had taken place, one with no winners. Thankfully, the infant couldn't comprehend just what she was seeing, but her instinct blared loud and clear: RUN! DANGER!

And so, mere moments after hatching, the tiny newborn scurried off into the thick forest outside of the cave, weaving her way carefully and slowly through the undergrowth. But it didn't take long until she grew hungry and tired. Instinct was telling her to find someone or something, to take care of her, to feed her. But with what? By who? Her confused exhaustion became a distraction, and just like that, the nameless hatchling fell head over heels down a steep incline, hidden by the very vegetation she'd been trying to hide in.

With a rather painful chirp, she flopped right into a thick bush, and lay there, dazed beyond belief. It took a while, but when the world finally stopped spinning, she opened her eyes only to come face to face with an even tinier fawn. For a moment, the baby Obelisk and the baby Peryton stared at each other, neither quite sure what to do or think of the other. Then, very slowly, the tiny fawn stretched her soft muzzle forward... and gently sniffed her. The hatchling decided the only proper response was to curiously sniff her back, and give a little lick in greeting. And just like that, a friendship for life was made.

The mother of the itty bitty fawn was rather confused when she came back to her "safely hidden" offspring. A rather scaley and bigger fawn had appeared! She didn't remember have twins, and this one was different but... the strange new fawn shifted under her gaze, and her coat shimmered. Her coat was a dark base, and while her brighter cyan bits weren't spotted but long instead--yes, there was no doubt. Only Wispwillows had such colors, and the gods had clearly blessed her with a new fawn to teach and care for.

It would be a lie if one said it was sunshine and rainbows from then on. The strange new fawn, while sweet and eager to please, was just bizarre. She wouldn't eat the same fruits and grasses her first fawn ate with gusto, ears flattening with disgust at the bitter greenery. Not even the fresh hearts she carefully taught them to harvest from prey seemed to interest her. Thankfully, wherever fruits grew and blood pooled, insects were never far, and both babies were able to feast to their hearts' content. A trip to a cool deep spring led to the Obelisk indulging her instincts to hunt for fish, while her new mother and sister watched in equal parts bemusement and resignation. And it might be better to not mention how the new fawn didn't fade into the shadows with nightfall, and the slight (okay big) panic attack her new mother promptly went through when she realized the fact.

But life goes on. In a few short and peaceful seasons, her firstborn and adopted fawns had grown strong, especially the latter. Oh well, by the will of the gods, and so on. The two siblings refused to part and set out to find their own territory, a place to claim as their own. It wouldn't be long until they came across an aggressive pack of Mirrors, only to be saved by yet another Mirror and her clan. They didn't know the names they would earn for themselves, or the buried history waiting to spill from the conflict. Now that's a story for another time. As for this one? This is the end of Justice's birth and childhood, and the beginning of her legend.
