The clan's resident mad scientist. He and Bubbaloo were one of the first dragons to arrive at Cherry and Brutus' doorstep, seeking shelter one night during a wicked thunderstorm. At first it was assumed that Bubbaloo was Onyx's mother, as he was just a hatchling and she was full grown, but then Bubbaloo revealed the truth. Onyx had been experimenting with mixing magic and science, and had managed to de-age himself.

Onyx and Bubbaloo's original clan had seen the mixing of science and magic as taboo, but growing up that had never stopped Onyx. He was always too curious, always asking 'why' and never accepting 'just because' as an answer. When his first experiments were discovered, he was punished soundly and forbidden from ever attempting to combine science and magic again, but he was not deterred. He just got better at hiding his work.

Bubbaloo showed up one day, with that knowing smile of hers, just when Onyx had reached the point in his experiments that he needed an assistant, and she was his partner in crime (and mate) ever since.

But when his final experiment went wrong, changing him back into a hatchling, Bubbaloo realized that they would never be able to hide what had happened from their clan, and that the consequences would be severe. And so she grabbed Onyx and what little belongings she could carry and fled out into the stormy night, seeking shelter elsewhere. Eventually she and Onyx found their way to Cherry, and the rest is history.

Now, if something strange happens in the clan, such as scales changing colour or shape, or dragons even changing species, Onyx is almost always to blame. He can't help it! He just wants to answer every 'why' and 'what would happen if' that pops into his head. Most of the time his experiments aren't harmful, anyways, and if he ever does manage to get over his head, Bubbaloo somehow always knows when to step in and distract him with something new to work on before he can blow himself up.
