Biography

Delicate Petals Reaching Out

As Veilspun dragons began to interact with the modern breeds of Sorneith, some sought clans to call home. Orchid was one of several dragons to look to the Limitless clan, a supposedly neutral clan in the wind region, home to dragons with extraordinary abilities. She was in possession of such an ability, along with some of her companions.

It is known as Veiled Deception, and it is frequently used by Veilspun who lack a cohesive unit of fellow Veilspun to engage in the more standard distraction and diversion tactics of the species, either being part of smaller groups, or lone travelers. The latter is rare due to the known cases of torpor in sleeping Veilspun. This is why Orchid and her fellows traveled to the clan together to avoid this risk.

In technical terms, Veiled deception is an illusionary technique by which an elemental phantom is summoned that looks exactly like the Veilspun. It explodes when struck, causing elemental damage to the attacker. The upper limits of this ability are highly varied, with some Veilspun able to simulate an entire swarm of illusion mines that are difficult to tell apart depending on the environment. While the illusions lack the trance abilities of the real Veilspun, they can serve as an effective deterrent, a means of escape, or a means of gaining the offense in combat.

Orchid comes from a long line of practitioners of the style, keeping the secrets alive and well in this modern age. Perhaps she felt the Limitless clan would be a fine home for it. The size of its residents might have posed a threat to the fragile frames of Veilspun, but they had kind hearts and were capable. Attempts to teach the style to others are slow going, but promising. Her fellows have even found additional effects to generate for the specters.

She was largely resistant the clan’s heavyset lifestyle, volunteering her skills as a scout and spy, one who can fly through enemy territory unseen, and escape combat unscathed where it does arise. Behind what might be considered a thorny exterior, frequently punctuated with a snide jab at the flank of her clanmates, she is truly caring, and values the wellbeing of those she works with on missions.
