Cactus' personality is as prickly as his name implies. He's gruff, intimidating, short-tempered, and difficult to connect with. He often butts heads with the others in Thunder's Echo, especially the less serious ones. He has a particularly rocky relationship with the clan's spirals, Sweet Potato and Skygem. Skygem is smart enough to leave him be, but Sweet Potato loves to push Cactus until he snaps.

Despite his stony exterior, he has a soft side and is dedicated to defending the clan, especially the hatchlings. He has a special connection with Halloween, one of the youngest members of the clan, and cares deeply for her.

He also holds a deep respect for Nurse.
