NAMES: Dawn MEANING: the literal meaning of a sunrise; waking to a new day, good or bad CLAN ROLE: forefront hands-on warrior in Coliseum battles; main trainer for would-be warriors and those Chosen Ones preparing to become Exalted; also, occasionally, spiritual guide CLOSEST FAMILY: some similarly-aged clan members and colleagues |
B I O G R A P H Y
Originally interested in joining the clan for the companionship alone - perhaps even just to start a family - Dawn quickly realized the peace and quiet of living in a permanently settled den... unsettled him. He had been wandering, a veteran of many battles, an eager warrior in his youth and an honorable soldier in his adult life. Joining a clan seemed like a good idea, a way to expand his experiences beyond mercenary work and heroic quests. It would be interesting, at least, and wasn't he supposed to contribute to dragonkind like everyone else? Physically and spiritually, to his best ability. And there was nothing wrong with his mind, after all. Except some nights haunted him more than others. Those times over the years that he had rested - work breaks, vacations, circumstantial situations - he'd known a restlessness, too. Sure, he could cope with what he'd seen. Dawn's mind hadn't suffered cracks, like those of some of his less fortunate friends and fellow soldiers. But a warrior's life knows no peace. To be forced into it, into leisure and numbing boredom, felt... uncomfortable, to say the least. It made him ache to move and gave him too much space to think. To mull. So he began to meditate. Meditation was also what saved his hide the first months after joining the Clan. It allowed him to cope with the overwhelming amount of social interactions, not to mention the noise. He'd never thought a settled, boring clan could make so much noise. Especially the hatchlings - but frankly, there's little youths can do about their age. The elders might know better, but that never made them any quieter... With time, Dawn got used to it. Over many months, he came to appreciate it, too, the noise, and the dragons that came with it. He came to realize the purpose he'd sought lay somewhere else. He'd projected his quest for belonging on to the founding of a family, when in reality, what he wanted was simply that: belonging. The Clan gave him that, and a purpose. In educating young dragons, Dawn could not only pass on years of experience as a warrior - a profession he still felt passionate about - he could also teach them the importance of a strong mind. He rarely says it out loud - he doesn't like to speak of the sea, the distant memory of which still makes him quiet and sorrowful. But to be a warrior is to be like the sea, he believes. You must jump back and forth like waves lapping on the shore, light and gentle one moment, rough and thundering the next. Somewhere in the middle of those two extremes is an equilibrium, a supposed state of calm water. A quiet center that never budges, an inner peace you can always return to, however rough the seas get. It's been many yeasr since Dawn last saw the shores on which he was born. He's seen the sea again, many times, though it never held a pull on him. He has a new home now, which pulls at him quite unlike the tides. His home is stable, solid as rock. TECHNICAL INFORMATION Origin: bought originally for breeding, then made him my #1 warrior in Coliseum.
