Latinized form of Greek Αλκυονη (Alkyone), derived from the word αλκυων (alkyon) or ‘αλκυων (halkyon) meaning "kingfisher". In Greek myth this name belonged to a daughter of Aeolus and the wife of Ceyx. After her husband was killed in a shipwreck she threw herself into the water, but the gods saved her and turned them both into kingfishers. This is also the name of the brightest of the Pleiades, the seven stars in the constellation Taurus.

Alcyone dreams constantly; sometimes she dreams even when she is awake. Sometimes the dreams are simple - today a new member will join the clan, today Kekasmai will find gold ore - and sometimes she hasn't the faintest idea what they mean. There are too many threads of destiny that are too complexly interwoven for a single dragon to ever hope to understand, and the only other Water dragon of the clan is not forthcoming about, well, anything.
Despite the sometimes-dark portents she sees in her mind's eye, Alcyone knows she must not be swept away. She must learn to move with the tides, even if the tides of the Arcane lands are magic, not water.
