Biography
Secret Keeper
Prefers spending time in the Tangled Wood, especially the Wispwillow Grove
"She has come home."
Karakas lifted his head to look up to Lily, the faerie that hovered over his head. Iridescent wings shimmered blue in the light cast by the large mushrooms that surrounded Karakas' nest, and violet eyes blinked at him, searching for some hint that he understood her words.
"Who has come home?" Karakas asked as he stretched out his forelegs. The wind was especially cold that night, reminding the grove that winter wasn't quite over.
Lily sighed in exasperation and then waved her small hands about. "I don't know why you expect me to know all of these things. The moon just told me to tell you that she has come home. So it must be something important. The moon doesn't tell me things often."
Karakas huffed, glancing up to the murk that blanketed the grove. "Maybe if you left the gro..."
"BAH! Dragons do NOT understand. The moon only speaks to us because we cannot see her. She only speaks to those she cannot see. We can never leave or we lose our powers."
Karakas lowered his gaze back to the agitated faerie, just offering her a single nod. Whether the moon spoke to her and hers or not, the information she provided had always proved valuable, if incomplete. "Where can I find her again?"
"Home," Lily said with a flick of a hand to the north. "Certainly not here."
"This is practically my home, however."
"But it is not hers. Or maybe this isn't really your home, and you're just here a lot? I like your company though so don't take that to mean I want you to leave. You're barely tolerable for a dragon. You don't try to put me in lanterns or do other stupid things like that."
"You would make a lovely lantern friend."
"Don't even start!" Lily put her fists on her hips, a comically agitated expression crossing her face.
"All right. I'll go ask Murlaigh if he's heard of anything strange and return to you with news."
Lily's grimace turned to a bright smile as she bobbed her head. "Yes, yes!" she squeaked. "Upon your return, I will let you know if the moon has said anything else."
Karakas shook out his wings, glancing back once to his bed before he finally stepped onto the faded path among the glowing fungi.
"Take this seriously."
Lily's soft serious tone turned Karakas' head back towards the faerie. A gentle breeze tossed Lily's bone white hair about her head in halo that glimmered blue in the grove's eerie light.
"The moon doesn't give me direct orders often, so it's best to listen when she does. Be well and return to us, Karakas."
Lily disappeared in a streak of pink and white, her form weaving amongst the mushrooms and trees. Branches whispered in the wind, and Karakas looked to the gloom above again, searching for any hint of moonlight. Finding none, he lifted into the air and coiled through the trees, turning north to return to the Sendal Square, his brother, and home.
