Biography
LUMINA
|
she is a bioluminescent creature, lithe and slippery as an eel, tricky as a fox, and smaller than both. the markings along her body glow in the dark and become brighter when submerged in water. she can breathe underwater and in very thin atmospheric conditions, high in the air when flying. The wings all along her body beat hundreds of times per minute, making a humming sound and obscuring her small voice, forcing her to stop flight when she wishes to speak to other dragons. she makes excellent mushroom stew, especially from the glowing mushrooms found almost exclusively in the shadow domain (she flies there often for ingredients, as the dried ones sold by merchants in Dragonhome only dimly shine, even in total darkness.) her clanmates are always excited to have her soup when the ingredients are on hand. Her favorite thing is to sit and watch her clanmates eat the soup she makes. Sometimes when intently listening to another dragon vent to her, she goes and curls up their arm or tail like a little bangle, squeezing the limb and providing comforting pressure. Using this method, she can ease the pain of arthritic dragons. |

The cauldron had to be at least ten times the size of the tiny Veilspun, perched on an oven-cloth on the great pot's rim. She stirred the bubbling soup with a long wooden spoon, the glowing mixture illuminating the shimmering scales scattered across her lithe body. Her diaphanous wings fluttered gently, and she hummed to herself as she cooked. The black lichen shrouding the doorway parted, and through it slouched a downtrodden Tundra, thickly furred feet dragging on the ground. Lumina did not startle as the bells woven into the natural curtain chimed. "Come in, take a seat." She said, not turning around. "Would you like some soup?" The Tundra rumbled out a murmur of assent and found a seat on one of the floor's larger cushions, letting out a groan as he relaxed. With great care, Lumina selected two bowls from beside the vast pot, one large enough for the Tundra behind her, and one that was small enough to serve as an undersized cup for the great dragon. Forgoing a ladle, she scooped out two servings of the thick and luminous stew, catching some of the fragrant oils from the top. She fluttered over to the Tundra, handing him the soup, and found a place to sit upon a cushion opposite him, sipping her own portion. "Tell me, friend, what troubles you?" The Tundra sniffs the stew, purring at the mouth-watering aroma, hesitating deeply before he spoke, "I believe my time may soon be past." "And what makes you think such a thing?" "Lumina, may I call you that?" He paused as the small Veil nodded, "With each day, my memory deteriorates, my heart, it beats slower than ever before. Every breath grows more labored. When I awaken, sometimes I find myself floating above my own body, spirit hardly attached." He paused to lap up the soup, "I have made peace with my fate, but I fear for the fate of my mate." Lumina nodded, drinking her own soup slowly, "You fear your mate may not take well to your passing." "I want her to forget me once I'm gone." "She will not." She said simply. "One cannot prune memory from mind as with a shrub or cactus. The inner workings of the mind are not so simple. Do you desire my assistance further than advice?" "I do." "Then I will provide it, my friend. I will do what I can to ease her grief once you are gone." |
