INFO A Mistake. That was one of the earliest memories Ortham has of his parents calling him anything. The runt of the litter, and the youngest of his siblings, the young coatl did not understand what it was about him that brought about his clans ire. Some of his feathers were dark, yes, but he certainly wasn't pale. Quite the opposite, he was actually quite beautiful, with striking colors and patches that shone different colors in the sunlight. It wasn't long before he was old enough to find out. His first sight of his own reflection in an icy crevice told him all he needed to know. His eyes. The problem was his eyes. Cursed by the Icewarden himself, his parents had always said to him as they barred him entry back into the nest with his siblings. Cursed with death, the rest of the clan exclaimed as they forced him to try and find his own food. His own face stared back at him with an unearthly pale gaze, manifestations of frost occasionally forming and swirling in the air around his face. It was when he got older that things started escalating to the breaking point. Coming near clanmates was no longer met with just verbal assault but physical as well, their claws and lashing out at his face. Attempting to take solace in his siblings only ended in being chased off by his father, to the point he no longer tried. Time passed, and eventually it was this treatment that finally made Orthams heart harden. Eventually, the coatl had enough, and vanished into the snows of the Cloudscape Crags, never to be seen by his former clan again... |
Ortham ran for a long time. The young coatl, now grown, became a fine hunter, and relatively skilled at navigating the wilds. However, for a very long time he could never bring himself to settle down anywhere. No, it wasn't until he met a naive young gaoler out on an adventure that he let anyone in. Ursa was an enigma to him when he met her. Young, spritely, and laughed right out of the room when she went to try and join one of the gaolers Orders in their icy domain, she had every reason to be bitter about the lies spoonfed to her when she was young. But she kept her head up, readjusted her armor, and kept going. The sight of it warmed something deep inside that Ortham had forgotten he had, and as if pulled by gravity he found himself following her down the road, a new companion found in a previously lonely world. |
