bio ❧ The conservative nature of crow society was never something Cabazai viewed as efficient. Especially when it came to the rift between Effluvials and Lesser variants, how Lesser crows were viewed as cowards and overly dependent on allies, Cabazai never approved of that growing up. But his thoughts on the matter inevitably lowered his position in his birth clan, even leading to his exile when he was found associating with other variants and working with them. He was seen as a troublemaker, and many other Effluvials thought he'd bring nothing but mass conflict with his low regard for rules. He quickly developed that reputation to the point many Effluvial clans who knew his name treated him similarly to how they treat Lessers. Though he wasn't attacked most of the time, he was shunned because he'd just weigh them down in their eyes. Being ousted from his clan and having his social standing so low was a major disadvantage, but Cabazai considered it a little more freeing. He sought out the company of Lessers and other variants, although gaining their trust was difficult. Their companionship, even if temporary, turned out to be useful. Over time he began to evaluate his options and observe their capabilities. Lesser crows could be valuable when it came to their supportive abilities and numbers. Deviant crows could also be a major help when it comes to healing, and their willingness to learn would be useful. Albinos being able to control others with their viral strain could be helpful, though their hostile nature might prove troublesome. Eboncrows with their vast numbers and network of information could be a great advantage so long as they cooperated. Jackdaws with a wide arsenal of abilities would certainly have potential. Cabazai found this diverse set of advantages with all these different crow types to be ideal, unlike the combative Effluvials who usually keep to themselves. He desired to form a group of his own filled with crows of all shapes and sizes who could fit a variety of roles. All crows would be welcome so long as they could be useful and cooperative. Perhaps his current social standing in Effluvial society wasn't great, but if his objective succeeded, would it matter? His stance, though progressive, may or may not be fueled by his own selfish motives. He wants power through unity, to be able to rally his companions whenever he needed to. He's certainly capable of holding his own, but he wanted more than that. If he can rise to the top this way, gain influence, have so many dragons following him, even without the support of other Effluvials, he'd be able to prove his birth clan wrong. Having the companionship of Lessers and anyone considered "below" the true Effluvials wouldn't make him a coward or weak. In the end, every dragon by themselves, no matter how powerful, is still inherently weak. But if a lot of dragons stand together no matter who the individuals are, they can overthrow an empire. If eventually he can stand above Effluvial clans and have them look up to him, he'll consider his efforts a success. And after that, he can turn to the rest of the world and do the same. There's no telling what the limits are as long as he has a massive following. Maybe his motivations and goals are selfish, and he really is power hungry. But right now, his current allies believe in him and their cause and that's all he cares about. Currently, he's one of the commanding roles in the Midnight Seclusion's forces. He has been involved in their armies for a while since he's been excluded from much of crow society. He commands only a part of their forces, though, and ultimately answers to their chief guard as well as the sovereign. This is part of his strive to gain infamy and have more followers. If he has a high position in an older and developed clan, he may have better luck getting his name out there. In the mean time, he and his followers have called their group "The Scarlet Syndicate" and have their base on the edge of the Scarred Wasteland, bordering the Sea of a Thousand Currents and close to the Tangled Wood. Cabazai is often absent due to his role in the Midnight Seclusion, so he trusts his right-hand Lunen to run things when he's not around. So far Lunen hasn't given Cabazai any reasons to be disappointed.

trivia ❧ - name comes from the dromaeosaurid "austroraptor cabazai" - sometimes called "cabbage" as an insult. - cabazai has empathy issues. as his goals suggest, in the end he cares about his own success and the success of his group just fuels his ego. if they're successful, he is too. if they fail, he does too. the only reason he wants to help the dragons in it is because their failure is his failure. - views everyone based on their potential. as long as he sees something in them that could be useful, they mean something to him. he doesn't care about their personality or what they do, as long as they can aid him it doesn't matter. but if they've proven useless, it's likely they'll be disposed of somehow. - a manipulator. if he sees another way to take out an opponent, he will do it. he also tends to manipulate opponents into fighting each other, then picks up the pieces and moves on. he focuses on getting obstacles out of the way immediately. he's not sadistic, but he's ruthless. he sees making someone suffer as "playing with food", a total waste of time. get the job done and move to the next objective. - while cabazai has natural strength as an effluvial crow, he is neither the best fighter or the worst fighter. there are other effluvials he could absolutely destroy in a battle, but there are also many who could easily punt him to the sun. that's why he often turns his opponents against each other instead of fighting directly. he certainly could hold his own in some cases, but oftentimes he prefers victory through wit and strategy, even if it means being dishonorable. - his viral strain is pretty standard for an effluvial with some variations. possible symptoms include enhanced strength, fever, paranoia, hallucinations, inability to swallow (akin to rabies), body aches, inflammation, and given enough time the contagion will compromise the nervous system and may induce paralysis. - surprisingly patient and capable in authority positions. he is straight-forward, no nonsense, all work and no play. he doesn't have much of a sense of humor and wants only the facts. this attitude may drive others away from him since he's so serious all the time, but his persistence and focus on his goal as well as organization skills makes him someone to look up to as a leader. he looks at those who may not be expected to succeed and gives them a chance to prove their worth. by giving those "nobodies" an opportunity to grow and have a purpose, he's earned their loyalty and belief in him. after all, he believed in them. - more than willing to cooperate with enemies. but if the deal is no longer useful, the deal is off. - one of his allies, an eboncrow, was assimilated by a "hivemind". the eboncrow's brother, araucan, agreed to seek out information on this group when asked. the most the two could gather was how the hivemind had numbers spanning all over sornieth and were incredibly adaptive and observant. much of the information was rumors, but some details came from an anti-hive force who researched hives often. while araucan was unnerved by the concept, cabazai wasn't as afraid. if anything, he admired the hive's ways and aspired to be on their level. he hasn't admitted this to anybody, but his attitudes are actually inspired by the hivemind and their methods. if he keeps this up and his group expands the way he wants it to, he could even be considered similar to a hive's own consciousness...
