It began with an argument: some petty thing that Heihu no longer remembers the impetus for. As these things are wont to do, it spiraled outwards into a conflict, and further into an altercation. Before long, antipathy deepened into hatred, and Heihu suffered the consequences of picking fights. His adversary was skilled with magic, poisons, medicine, alchemy, other things he can't name - which of them, he doesn't know. Heihu was afflicted with a curse. From the day of the conflict forward, his body slowly, very slowly, has crystallized. His scales, his flesh, tissue, muscle, bones... from the outside in, it is all turning to glittering stone.

His eyes were the first to go.

Guardians can spend their entire lives searching for their Charge, but Heihu was lucky. (He counts himself that way, anyways.) He found his Charge the very day he lost his sight. He found it in the dark undergrowth of the Viridian Labyrinth after being cast out from his birth clan for harboring disease and keeps close to his heart. There, he nurses the thing he treasures above all else: his grudge.
