tG50H7p.png When Nil first arrived at Greenport, she joined the newly founded Greenport Guard. She was quite effective at her job; she kept the peace, kept pirates out of the port, and kept citizens and visitors safe. However, she was also popular amongst her fellow guardsdrakes. Though she rarely raised her voice, she was a convincing speaker, able to use both logic and emotion to sway dragons to her side. She didn't often feel the need to speak up, but when she did, she could get a surprising number of dragons on her side. She was well known and well liked amongst the guard, rivaled only by Handel, another high ranking guard.

Luckily, the two dragons rarely had any major conflicts. The majority of tension came from Amrita, the Captain of the Guard. Though he was the captain, he was also on the Council of Six to represent the guard, their needs, and their skills. This worked at first, when Greenport was smaller and the council didn't have as many responsibilities. Amrita could easily balance his duties to both the guard and the Council.
As time went on, though, and Greenport became more prosperous, Amrita began to neglect his responsibilities as captain, preferring instead the prestige that being a Council member brought him. This caused much tension with the rest of the guard, as Amrita's orders and directions became more and more disconnected with the reality of what the guard could and were willing to do.

Eventually, the tension came to a head. Handel and Amrita had a fight over one of the captain's orders, and Amrita released Handel from the guard. The rest of the guard revolted over one of the most popular and reliable guardsdrakes being fired and chased Amrita out of the port. The Council condemned the guard's actions, but with the guard acting out, they were powerless to stop them. Chaos erupted across Greenport over the next few days as the guard acted out, with a few dragons trying to take control of the situation. Both Handel and Nil each managed to hold sway over significant portions of the guard, but if they didn't act fast, their control wouldn't last long.

During this chaos, the guard was trying to select a new captain. Some wanted Handel to be the captain, others wanted Nil, and still others had other ideas about the new captain. A great many of them also wanted the captain to not be on the Council, though others preferred the representation that the guard had on it. There was tension and fighting between guardsdrakes as they argued about the correct course of action to take from here.

Nil and Handel agreed to meet in private to discuss what would happen with the guard. As the two most popular choices for captain, they felt pressured to work out who would lead the guard before tensions rose to fatal heights. Both wanted to be captain, though, as they both felt skilled enough to fill the role. Eventually, they realized they had separate desires; Handel wanted to be the captain to keep order with the guard and keep Greenport safe, and Nil wanted the position to be on the Council and represent the guard. They agreed, then, to have Handel take over as Captain of the Guard and Nil to fill the representative position on the Council. The rest of the guard mostly agreed with the solution, and those who didn't were swayed into allowing it to happen.

Afterwards, Nil approached the Council with the guard's proposal: formally remove Amrita as Captain of the Guard, promote Handel to captain, and appoint Nil to the open space on the Council. The guard also wanted other dragons in new positions, as appointed by Handel, to better reflect the will of the guard. The Council tried to negotiate, but they held very little sway due to the revolting guard. Eventually, they relented, and the guard ceased revolting due to their victory. It took a little time for everything to settle, but once it did, the Greenport Guard became stronger than ever before.

xxxx Nil is a very forceful dragon. Though she's not particularly talkative, she is an excellent speaker, able to state her ideas convincingly and with fewer words than most other dragons. She's a grounded dragon, and the council member most connected to the average citizen of Greenport. She's the one the Council turns to when they need support from the Guard, and she's the one the Guard turns to when they need something from the Council.

Nil is also a very direct dragon. She cuts straight to the heart of things and is very blunt. During her time in the Guard, she was a formidable adversary and quick to take down opponents. When in session, she will argue hard for what she wants, and she'll almost always come out on top. She's very realistic and an excellent strategizer. She has a solid understanding of what both the Council and the Guard can do, and she's able to use that knowledge to succeed.

Despite how quiet and intimidating she can seem, Nil is a fairly social dragon. She's an excellent listener, and she's able to understand and empathize with others even after a short conversation. she does her best to make sure everyone is heard and understood, and she's gained the respect of many dragons this way. Nil doesn't have that many close friends, but the ones she does she makes sure to keep close. She feels most comfortable in small groups where she can get to know each individual personally, or in one-on-one conversations. She's only comfortable with large groups of dragons if she can speak to them all at once, such as giving a speech, but she's not a fan of mingling.

Oo Nil is really unique! Fancy greyscale dragons are quite popular but I don't think I've seen any that were black AND brown and so regal; it's a neat look! Particularly like how the white accents on the cover, the shawl, and their wing create this nice little triangle of interest that highlights their other colors.

I love earth-tone dragons, and there's just something very "earthy" about Nil. She's got a very specific vibe to her that I can't quite put my finger on, somewhere between "mystic" and "wanderer." I think it's the apparel, which is put together very well, and makes her look "dressed," but still gives her natural colors and genes a chance to shine through. She was immediately the first dragon to catch my eye (and not just because she's one of the first; the fact she was the welcome wagon just let me know I was in for a treat).

Ho, snap. I'm going to have to amend my previous statement about Imps because this dragon is about to make me a hypocrite. This no nonsense dragon means business and I might be falling in love with another color scheme. I adore how the Supplicant Rings ties together all the different shades of brown and green. Nicely done. Also, can we talk about how you have managed to turn familiar matching into an art?

Nil is such a beautifully earthy dragon who is, by coincidence or not, a very down-to-earth being. Her story is dynamic in that it not only involves conflict, but resolution that appears to have turned out for the betterment of all involved while giving Nil a well deserved title and authority. Combining the dusty sage apparel with the supplicant and deadeye pieces is such a feat! Excellent layering on that pose! I personally have always found it difficult to dress a female imperial. You've done such a wonderful job on several examples!

I'd have to put Nil up next; she caught my attention when I first came to your lair but I wanted to make sure I wasn't picking only first-pagers. I really love dragons with dark aesthetics and Nil is certainly the representative of that. I really adore how you tied the brown of her snout into the supplicant rings! Speaking of those rings, the hue shift between green and brown is just so perfect for her. I also like the lighter green in her primary that breaks up the dark and gives her a very unique appearance, and it fits perfectly with the dusty sage pieces! Just a lovely dragon of colors that should not work but, in the end, do perfectly.

Exalting Nil to the service of the Windsinger will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
