The tomb contained a myriad of strange and ancient things. In its depths, the beast called Miasma rested atop a pile of desiccated bones. The remains belonged to those who wandered into the tomb for one reason or another. Perhaps some were archaeologists and scholars seeking to uncover hidden treasures. . . or raiders with intentions to pilfer what remained. Regardless, Miasma devoured them all and over time, she amassed a collection of her own treasures; trinkets and items carried into the tomb’s depths. The beast’s favorite items were a collection of four stone carvings that she had torn free from a tomb raider’s satchels. So enamored she was with the intricate carvings, that she had spared the thief. He continued to bring her such gifts now, his own form cursed by the teeth-shaped wounds that Miasma had raked into his hide. He appeared in the depths of the tomb, fur gleaming red and silken even in the darkness. Overhead, the full moon shimmered, but its light would never reach the tomb’s depths or the four eggs that Miasma’s form was coiled around. Instead, the beast placed her beloved stone carvings beside the eggs. These stones, after all, had rested beneath the moonlight for millennia before being discovered and carved to shape. The first of the eggs shifted as a hairline crack splintered across the shell. The children were formless at first, but each of them came to inhabit one of the four stone carvings. Rumors of them spread as the children grew and wandered out into the world. Tales of strange statues that would appear in unlikely places and move when no one was looking.
