Decay grew up always being fascinated by science. Since he was little, he would mix up “potions” (mainly just mud and grass). The older he got, the more he began to experiment with more things. Decay upgraded to water and flowers, then juice and plants, and then wine and herbs before he got into the… real stuff. He was also fascinated by the idea of eternal life. Decay lost his parents when he was young, and it really affected his upbringing. He was often depressed and envious of the dragons who had loving and doting parents, so he wanted to find a cure to death. Decay found an abandoned laboratory that was still fully stocked and functional. His days filled with him concocting different potions and mixing beakers; experimenting on different animals and plants. One day though, it was bound to backfire.

Decay’s friends warned him about going too far, but his depression and abandonment issues were driving him to madness. Then one day the unthinkable happened. As Decay was mixing two rather unstable potions together, the beaker exploded. Smoke as red as blood filled the room and Decay felt a burning on his face, specifically his eyes.

As the smoke cleared, Decay blinked and opened his eyes but things felt.. different. His head hurt, specifically behind his eyes. He also noticed he could see more in his vision than normal. He scrambled to find a mirror and picked up a piece of silver he had accidentally made and held it up to where he could see his reflection. He let out a cry of rage as he noticed that his face was mutated.

He had multiple, orbless eyes dotted around where his original eyes once laid, with a sticky, red substance that stretched between them. Then Decay laughed. And laughed and laughed and laughed. Creatures rattled in their cages at the ruthless, insane laughter. Now he saw what they had been saying… The others already thought of him as a monster. Now he really was the monster. Decay inhaled some of the last lingering red particles of smoke and blew them out… but they came out in tenfold. Amused, he tried out his magic, destroying a lot of the beakers containing… questionable potions. Smoke of all different colors filled the air and began leaking out of the vents.

Now no one questions the mad scientist in his hidden lair. There are rumors that… ungodly things happen in there. Screams can be heard from all hours, guttural, animal, scared. Rumors fly around that Decay brings… things… back from the dead. Everyone scatters when they hear Decay walking down the path, quietly giggling under his breath.
