Head dragon of all things Digging - expansion tunnels, mining, exploration of new caves, and (sort of inadvertently) at least co-Chief of Archaeological Considerations, so a certain other dragon* does not end up as a dragon pancake.
Grouchy. But good at his job. Fonder of a certain "annoyingly cheery" Nocturne than he likes to let on.
As a Metallic Earth dragon, all of Kal's mining safety gear is built-in, except for his favorite living lamp, Davy**. He claims he can feel instabilities in the shaft around him in that spined head-fan of his; if you see it flatten, it is time to head for safer tunnels.
His aardvark companions are helpful both for their sensitive noses, able to detect hazardous compounds in the underground air, and for their digging ability.... which is not always applied in the most helpful of ways.
**Technically the aardvarks are safety gear also, but their tendency to get overexcited about certain scents only an aardvark gets excited about cancels this out to neutral at times
