Deep within the unmapped, blasted hellscape of the Scarred Wasteland, there was a ridge of spines, formed from red rock and ancient bones bleached by sunlight. A Ridgeback was perched on one such spine, her glowing green claws tightly gripping its point. She stood still, silently watching the ground below; her golden armor clinked slightly in the breeze, and a stray glint of light reflected off her helmet. From far away, Sunburn might have looked like a statue. But up close, one glance at her deep red eyes, gaze full of burning hatred, would quickly dispel that impression. That would be the first thing a stranger noticed. The second would be her hide: a sheet of scarred, warped flesh, covered in burns and boils. Her scales had burned off long ago; what remained was red tissue, mottled with maroon patches. Years of visiting these spines had taken their toll on her. The sun's rays had scorched her skin and burned her eyes; but she paid little mind. She was fascinated with the sun, despite its power--or perhaps because of it. And by the time her clan's doctors realized how badly damaged she was, she was beyond caring. A weaker dragon would have covered themselves in bandages and other clothing, trying to hide their ugly skin. Not her. She was used to the pain, and her wounds were a symbol of devotion. She fixated her glare on the wasteland below her, scanning the scorched land for her target. She was, in loose terms, an enforcer. If someone stole her clan's property--physical or intellectual--it was her duty to catch the thief and deal with them appropriately. Though punishments ranged from mercifully swift death to prolonged experimentation, it was all the same to her. Just another mission to do. She squinted, her deep red eyes focusing on a tiny point in the horizon. She had found her target. One more mission to do. Lore by Vrachos |
