Bold opportunists or desperate scroungers, ‘Smoldercoat’ is the mildly disparaging nickname given to a small kin-group of Obelisk that are eking out a living wandering the Molten Scar. They have a reputation for diving deeper into the rumbling crevasses than safety would allow, and threading between still-seething lava streams searching hopefully for promising ore deposits before they have even cooled. Their recklessness leads to a near-constant state of singed manes and scalded paws - and occasionally tragedies - but these daredevil prospectors lionize the lucky few whose windfall provides for their fellows another week. They struggle with finding a steady living, because their largest finds are often spotted and plundered by larger, better-equipped expeditions before they can extract more than their initial haul.
Someday, they promise their hatchlings. Mind your footing, watch for the gleam, and someday the Flamecaller will bless our boldness…
