HISTORY
Born into nobility, Ward was taught from a very young age a very specific outlook on the world.

Carry his head high, manners and chivalry above all else, and to maintain the family's image and uphold their line of work as diplomats.

While paperwork is far from something he enjoyed doing, he understood someone had to eventually do it and found no qualms being roped into such a path, nor did he ever stray from those rules. It is through being a diplomat however, Ward began to learn more of what lies beyond the aristocracy of Alhvodire and what even lies beyond the expanse of the kingdom.

His first eyeopener was the queen herself, Dyrite. While Ward had only seen her in passing, he never had much of a chance to speak to her himself. Rising acclaim to being a very influential diplomat suddenly had garnered her attention, to which he was surprised to see how true her welcoming disposition was. The two hit it off, becoming very close despite the jarring age between them.

She told him of her homeland, some place out beyond the Farlands and how she and Belladonus met. The eventual creation of the kingdom unfolded before him through their conversations, putting all those history books he had read to shame.

Hearing Dyrite’s stories of her past fueled him with his own desire to travel just a bit, much to his family’s chagrin. Thankfully, the promise of continuing the diplomatic work as he traveled proved enough to ease their concerns for the time being. He remained within Alhvodire, never straying beyond the outskirts of their territory, but he met many people and heard their stories, and met many diplomats he had learned from.

However, one specific diplomat had interrupted his journey full stop.

Oh his lovely Isabella, who at the time was new diplomat to the scene. She had only just gotten the jump on her career and had found work within a small town Ward was passing through. If you ask Ward how it went, he would tell you it was love at first sight without missing a beat. Naturally, he befriended her and soon enough her own reputation grew. As it grew, the two grew even closer and it was only a matter of time before the two courted and wed.

Soon enough Ward returned to the inner circle of Alhvodire with Isabella at his side, much to his parents' distress. They had hoped their son was reasonable enough to marry another noble like himself, to the point they attempted to split the two apart. As much as Ward may talk and make deals in his line of work, convincing his parents to accept his marriage was one battle he never was able to win, and as such has removed his parents from his life.

While an action that hurt him deeply, he found himself much happier as he went on with his life afterwards. This continued by eventually being invited by Dyrite alongside Isabella to work in the High Council to help manage Alhvodire where he has happily worked for years now.

PRESENT STORY

It hadn't been any particularly special day when it had happened, when he had received the news.

His dear friend and the queen of Alhvodire, barely breathing and succumbed to some foreign element and all evidence pointed to her right hand.

It was unfathomable to Ward that Belladonus would do such a thing. He knew that the high magister was a powerful and dangerous position but this was… This was unspeakable. Even as he heard Belladonus’s side of the story, even as Belladonus brought forth his research, explaining it all as he underwent his own painful transformation from the element–

It was horrific.

Ward couldn’t look at him- he couldn’t do it without feeling sick to his stomach with disgust and rage. Neither were emotions he knew well, but they were now etched on to him every time he thought of the Imperial- no, the thing. Whatever he may be now.

At the very least, Ward would respect that Belladonus had the dignity to come with them willingly into holding, and that his fate would ultimately be left in their hands. It took some time before the council was able to decide what to do with them, waiting with bated breath if Dyrite would make it.

By the gods above, she did.

Ward was ecstatic at her recovery but soon left appalled by her blatant forgiveness of all that had happened, even with her poor physical health as a result. He couldn’t wrap his head around it, even told Dyrite she must have lost it. All she did was tut softly at him and say things like this happen.

Ward never agreed with her.

Soon enough Dyrite was in well enough health that she was cleared, to which the council and she began to decide Belladonus’s fate. Many wanted his head- Ward would admit he was one of them. If not for Dyrite, they may have gone through with it. Ward still remembers her words from that moment clearly.

“There is still a life for him yet, even if you- or even he- can not see it.”

It haunts him, those words, but he doesn’t know why. Perhaps he because he didn’t understand. Perhaps because he wanted to.

Even with Belladonus granted the right to hold on to his life, the fact remained of the kingdom’s distress at the fact Dyrite’s tragedy had reached the public. It had spread fast, the gossip and outcry at the aristocracy for not outing the traitor to their country. Something had to be done.

And thus the council exiled Belladonus from Alhvodire. His rights and citizenship now revoked, he was left on his own and to never show his face again in these lands. If he did, then he shall be treated as an enemy.

Ward doesn't know if he was relieved or enraged by how willingly the Imperial went or how Dyrite wished him goodbye as if he was still the same old friend of hers… But at the very least he was grateful the situation had been handled. The public was still distraught and it was left to Ward and the others of the council to pacify them. It was all they could do for now.

Soon enough Dyrite also left, heading to the Kaleidoscope in order to be examined by their mages. Ward doesn’t know if he trusts the magisters anymore than he would trust Belladonus at this point, but they were the only hope they had for Dyrite. It worried him to no end, the state of his friend.

All he could do now, is remain in Alhvodire and rule in Dyrite’s stead alongside Isabella and hope that soon enough he can rest easy.
