Ever since she went to the circus as a hatchling, Sosaphine had a dream. Not to be an acrobat or a beast tamer, or any of the other glamorous roles the big top had to offer. No, she wanted to be a clown. She couldn't think of anything more wonderful that to perform tricks and buffoonery, bringing joy and laughter to children and adults alike. Her parents frowned upon her ambitions for several reasons, but Sosaphine held on to her dream. And so, years later, she quit her job as a courier and used what little treasure she had saved to fund her new start as a professional clown under the stage name "Ms Skimbles".

There was just one glaring problem with this plan: Sosaphine wasn't funny. She was one of the least funny dragons in Sornieth, and as one of the central tenets of clowning is comedy, this presented an issue. He first few shows were disasters. Her punchlines fell flat, her slapstick was stilted, and she couldn't throw a pie to save her life. She didn't get a giggle out of a single child, and in fact accidentally made a few of them cry instead. Parents demanded their money back, and the aspiring clown soon found herself struggling to make end's meet.

Crushed by her failure, Sosa nearly gave up then and there. Her childhood dream seemed further away than ever, and with dread she contemplated returning to her parent's lair in disgrace. The thought of their smug expressions as she came slinking back flashed through her mind, and hardened her resolve. She couldn't quit yet. Not when the spirit of a clown burned so brightly within her. On that day, she realised what she must strive for: to become funny, at any cost.
