Rubel is one of many spirits that guide the Clan of the Lapidia. He was born of highly concentrated magical energy the night before the moon became complete in the sky, when the time drew near for the physical and spiritual worlds to meet. On the night of the waxing moon, his wings and mane shown brightly as he formed, casting rays of warm hues on the stones below him, painting them into rubies and garnets. Because of this, the oracles and priests of the Clan of the Lapidia regard him as a diety of fortune, finding, and collecting. Many adventurers and scholars pray to him before leaving their homes in hopes of finding a beautiful discovery to bring back to their lairs. Other dragons pray to him in hopes to find things that could help them or for things they need to find again. Rubel was named after Rubellite, a beautiful red type of Tourmaline, a gemstone treasured amongst the Lapidians for it's ability to come in a brilliant spectrum of colors. Some argue that Rubel should have been named Tourmaline since it can't be proven that Rubel is red due to his incorporeal nature and the fact he has never really been seen. Others argue that they have seen Rubel appear in a multitude of colors. However, many of the priests and oracles stay form in their belief of Rubel's deep-red colored hues. Nonetheless, Rubel blesses the Lapidians with good fortune by lending his hand in the pursuit of collecting and finding of gemstones and lost treasures, using his powers to influence the Lapidians towards their fortunes. The way Rubel aids the clan is almost as extensive as the mineral he's named after. He may offer one lost dragon aid in the form of a dream, a spectral claw in the mind that points towards the area where the desired object can be found. He could create an unnaturally bright glint in order to catch the eye of the traveler in the darkness. A flash of red may run across an otherwise bland landscape to pique the interest of an otherwise stumped researcher. A trail of hints may be left to guide a brazen adventurer to what they're destined to find. Sometimes the way he helps and leaves clues can baffle those he's trying to aid, but as long as the Lapidians trust in his guidance, Rubel will reward them with good fortune. In return for Rubel's kindness, many Lapidians leave offerings of their good fortune at the base of a statue built in his honor, whether it be a single coin or a large and beautiful gemstone, making the brilliant red-painted statue appear as if he's standing on an impressive hoard of treasure that would make anyone's jaw drop in awe. |
