S T H E N O

With his faceted eyes, Stheno's vision is rather soft and unfocused, and he gazes around him in a friendly haze. He gets around by smell, and does a good job hunting down truffles and sweet herbs for the cookery. Very popular with new hatchlings, good at cuddles and naps, and always in charge of hot drinks and sweets.
A comfort dragon!

Sleet has taken a motherly interest in this boy, all her children are long grown up, and what old lady doesn't love being served tea? With her huge eyes they get around just fine.

The rich, hearty of aroma of freshly made desserts fills the air within the bakery. The establishment is bustling with activity. Coatls expertly dance around each other as they go about their responsibilities. One coatl is organizing platters of sweet candies and rich chocolates. Another is placing delicate, pastel macarons on a platter to put on a shelf underneath the front counter. The ovens are the busiest area in the bakery.

Each dessert is finely sculpted into the shape of a coatl hatchling, chocolates, taffies, cakes and even the macarons. You examine the desserts while waiting in line. Finally, you make your choice: a Black Coffee. The coatl behind the front counter greets you.

“Hiya, welcome to the Milky Tea Patisserie! What can I get for you today?” You tell her what you want to order.

“An excellent choice,” she chirps. “And lucky for you, we just pulled a batch out of the oven a few minutes ago!” She scurries to the back and brings back a tray of beautifully crafted Black Coffee, with milk foam shaped like an adorable coatl hatchling.

Dress your dragon in something they would wear for trick 'r treating -- bonus points if you write why they picked the costume

Stheno has dressed up as a wolf, because he thinks puppies are nice and warm with all their fur, and he's the cuddle king. Maybe he will chase the hatchlings around a bit, and howl at them, to help wear off their sugar highs!

While ambling along in search of the trio of troublemakers he's here to watch over, Stheno catches scent of the Quenched Quince and heads over to the booth. After peering myopically at the menu board for several minutes, he inquires whether they can recommend a particularly good local tea, and if it would be possible to acquire a supply to take home to the lair as a souvenir. A long conversation about fruit vs leaf later, Stheno tucks a packet under his wing, and wanders away sipping a thick smoothie clasped happily under his chin with both paws.

Stheno held the recipe sheet up close to his nose, rotated it several times, blinked, and set it down. He gazed vaguely around at his fellow bakers, but finding no help there, started perusing his ingredients.

Absentmindedly popping a raspberrry into his mouth, he scratched his chin and tried squinting in the direction of the host/s. Seeing only a blur of cream and pink, he gave up and went back to the ingredients. He considered the pair of voices he'd heard, and thought about some of the newer arrivals to his home lair, and decided to try making something up.

A signature dish should reflect its creator/s, surely. He decided to try a double cake, making two separate batters each with their own complimentary filling, and then... assembling them... together... somehow.

A biscuit sculpture... Stheno considered his options. Materials first - which would be best for this assignment? Gingerbread is the traditional building biscuit of course, sturdy with a little flexibility. Would that be too predictable? Shortbread could perhaps be sculpted somewhat before baking, but then sugar cookies held a good edge and were lighter weight than the other two options... were they too brittle? Shortbread or sugar cookie would have to be shaped in the dough, neither held up well under a knife once baked.

Perhaps deciding on a model would help narrow it down? He pondered a while further and then decided. A Bogsneak Puppet in gingerbread, the material was familiar, an appropriate colour already, and he could apply his toymaking skills to hopefully create a sturdy replica.

A bread dragon! Stheno's first thought was of a spiral, out of that soft smooth dough he'd seen other dragons make into beautiful braided loaves. Considering his ingredients, he realized he had no idea how such a dough was made. His experience with yeast doughs was limited, being more of a coffee cake and tea biscuit sort of baker.

He briefly pondered the making a fat round snapper out of a few large balls, but the appeal of tying a spiral into knots was too amusing, and he set to preparing a simple white dough, throwing in a few eggs and some oil in hopes it would make the dough stretchier.

His face lit up cheerfully when he realized he could make it into a large pretzel, with a toasty egg wash skin and coarse salt as gembond markings. Regardless of the end result, at least this part was fun!

Stheno's hands reached automatically for the Sugared Starfall Blossoms. Perhaps it was the past year spent in a Nature lair, but he just couldn't resist the bright petals, with their wonderful colour and sugary crystalline edging. He held one carefully up close to his nose, turning and admiring it, seeing if it retained any scent, and then popping it in his mouth. He closed his eyes as he munched, smiling and wrinkling his nose at the floral flavour.

Remembering with a start what he was meant to be doing, the coatl bustled about preparing a standard angel food sponge batter for the little cakes. While they baked he fussed about trying different tips on a frosting bag to see how best he could create some leaves. These would be garden-cakes, little flower patches to hold in your hands.
Starfall Blossom

Stheno quickly gives up on the cherries. With his hazy sight, its just not worth the trouble of trying to pick the little tree fruit by touch and smell. So its apples or berries.. apples or berries... He pokes around under the trees until he has a handful of strawberries. Tasting one he considers the flavour, their tang hitting his tongue. Strawberries certainly, but under ripe. Their sweetness hasn't truly developed and under the crispness they are a bit watery and sour. Apples it is!

He fills a basket and trundles back the way he came, enjoying the soft glow of the trees. Sometimes its not so bad to have bad vision. He's already decided to top his pie with a lattice fashioned from pastry branches and blooms.
Red Delicious Apple

Identical owls.. six of them. Stheno stared blankly ahead considering this challenge. Nobody likes fondant, despite its supremely controllable form. And owls aren't square anyhow. And while he did love profiteroles, and surely they were the most delicious option.. one could hardly consider any profiterole identical to its neighbour.

Macarons it would have to be, they were round and smooth and uniformity was in their nature. He would try using slivered almonds as feathers around some great round eyes.

What a week! Stheno is a bit dizzy from all the bustle and rush, and he's looking forward to retiring to the quiet of home. For now however, its once again decision time. He'd love to try creating a magical forest, but after the experience with the exploding cupcakes... Floating crystal islands would certainly be a challenge but again, he saw what happened to those who chose to use the... glitter previously.

As he ponders, it comes to him that his home lair might consider the landscape of Arcane to be its defining characteristic, but while he's been in the territory he's noticed the dragons here rushing about with scrolls, or nose deep in books while enjoying the local cafes. His eyesight isn't good enough to show him the dome itself, but he saw a wonderful miniature in a toy store, and he's got an idea. A sugar crystal dome, formed over a nice big bowl, encasing a cake book on a cake stand/lecturn. Yes! As if a rare tome on display!

Stheno is overcome, his paws clapped to his cheeks as he blushes and accepts his prizes. After the announcements are finished he bustles over to Chernamor to offer congratulations and hugs, and then goes about hugging all his fellow bakers as well for good measure. What a time! What fun and what good company!
