Vampires. Very little is known of them and even fewer wish to say anything about themselves. Actually they would probably rather rip your throat out and drink the blood that flows. But this is Vladimir, Unlike any vampire you have probably met, well actually you probably haven't! Anyway, Vladimir is a rather talkative dragon who knows how to catch the eyes of another and draw you in with his rather outspoken personality. Though this is often only due to the fact he is probably going to try and drain you dry. But, Vladimir has, as of late, changed his ways. A meeting with a particularly clumsy coatl (had) changed all that. He now uses such charms only when helping his partner, Blood, with rather difficult to catch dragons.

After finding the Nomad Clan, Vladimir quickly came to know a young coatl by the name of Rapha. For some reason this clumsy, stuttering, craftsman of a dragon made Vladimir's dead heart a pulse of warmth, and it wasn't caused by him eating him. No, this was different for Vlad. Vlad soon began to travel with the Nomad Clan, after much convincing his partner of course. He quickly became enamored with the young coatl and began to spend much of his time with him. Until, of course the Dancing Flame incident...

Vladimir still stays with his former mates clan, though for what reason besides to wallow in guilt, is unknown. Perhaps he feels he should protect what is left of his mates life? Or perhaps he feels that he must try and fill the void left in the clan after losing a core member of their clan? The clan knows not but they let him stay, and each try in their own way to help heal his emotional wounds. No one blames him of course, except himself, for what happened. Either way though, no matter how much the guilt eats at his dead heart, there is a rage within him. A rage for what has been done to him and his precious new family. And he knows not how he will do it, but he will make them pay. But, for now, he stays within his den, alone, clutching a small crafted figure in his talons.

"You smell absolutely mouthwatering..."

They traveled around Sornieth, going from one territory to another as it suited them. Vladimir joined Blood in his endless pursuit of contracts.

After a time they found themselves in the Viridian Labyrinth, much to Vladimir’s delight; the dragon grew ill while in the sun for too long, and sometimes his hood was not enough to keep the sun’s rays at bay. The thick overgrowth provided ample shade for him. Conversely, Blood disliked the thick, teeming woods. His armor-clad body stuck out horrendously against the greenery, and his primary concern was successfully completing their contract.

They moved through the woods as quietly as they could, but occasionally the spikes of Blood’s armor would catch on a branch, or a twig would snap underfoot. When they came upon the dragon they were seeking at last, it was aware of their presence. It rushed at them, slashing its way through the jungle, then attacking them. The resulting tussle ended in its swift death, but both the imperials were wounded in the battle.

After binding their wounds, the pair trudged through the jungle, Blood grumpily swatting at the clouds of insects that followed them as they went. Eventually they stumbled upon a clan of dragons that had carved out a temporary home in the thick growth.

A tiny fae greeted them, full of warmth and brimming with wisdom. She invited them to spend some time in the clan, and because of their injuries the two agreed to stay a while and rest. Stumbling upon these dragons was a stroke of luck; with a lifestyle like theirs, even minor wounds can be a great danger left untended. Still, Blood had no desire to stay long.

The next morning, Vladimir decided to go for a walk. He stretched as he left the bed of leaves that he had slept in, ignoring his body’s protests. Just as he was entering the main area, a coatl knocked into him with surprising strength. Vladimir cried out in surprise and stumbled, nearly falling over.

The coatl appeared horrified. “Oh no! I’m so s-s-s-sorry! I promise it was an accident! Are you o-okay?”

ladimir prepared to snap at him, but when he saw the coatl’s expression, which brimmed with sincerity despite the goggles covering face, he could not help but smile instead. “It’s okay! I’m fine.”

"I’m so glad! I c-can’t believe I bumped into a g-guest like that! Is there a w-w-way I can make it up to you?”

"No, it’s fine!”

To his surprise, the coatl appeared distraught upon hearing his words. It dawned on Vladimir that the coatl probably would not feel better until he was given an opportunity to make up for it after all. He also realized that he was feeling quite warm toward this new acquaintance- unusually warm. Not thinking much of it, he said, “well, if you really want to make it up to me, you can show me around your clan. What’s your name, by the way?”
The coatl beamed, visibly relieved. “I’m R-rapha! I’d be happy to sh-show you around!”
That night, Vladimir was practically glowing as he returned to the sleeping quarters that he shared with Blood. The other imperial, introverted as he was, had felt awkward all day and scarcely left the area. His face lit up at the sight of Vladimir.

"Where were you? I was so bored here by myself.”

"Well then, why not get to know some dragons? You should have come with me!”
Blood stared, finally noticing his friend’s unusual demeanor. “What’s going on with you? And what is that thing you’re holding?”

Vladimir looked down with pride. “Oh, this? It’s a sculpture! Isn’t it neat?”
Blood stared at the twisted metal object with mild distaste. “It’s uh, nice? I don’t really understand it. What’s it supposed to be?”

Vladimir waved his words off, “Oh, I don’t know, I suppose it’s abstract or something. Rapha gave it to me.”

"Who’s Rapha?”

"A coatl who lives here. He’s very clumsy, but I think it’s cute. He makes amazing things out metal, and he says he wants to show me how to build things sometime. He stutters, but I make sure not to tease him or finish his sentences for him. Actually, by the end of the day he was so comfortable around me he was hardly stuttering at all.” Vladimir gushed.

Blood was slightly alarmed. Romance was a foreign concept to the hardened assassin, something for dragons with far simpler lifestyles. His friend becoming so lovestruck and emotional felt inconceivable. “Huh. Interesting. Well listen, being in a clan like this, it’s weird for me. And we have that other contract to get started on all the way in the Southern Icefield. I’ve rested plenty. I think we should get going tomorrow.”

Vladimir’s face fell. The idea of leaving caused a sharp pain in his chest. “We can’t leave,” he said simply.

Blood gave him a blank stare. This possibility had not even remotely occurred to him. “What?”

"I’m not leaving.”

"Fine, then. But I’m going.”

The two fell silent, feeling awkward. Eventually they both drifted off to sleep, Vladimir still clutching the sculpture.

The following evening, Blood prepared to leave. Vladimir watched him anxiously, feeling torn between his two attachments.

"I guess this is goodbye,” he said uneasily. “You could stay, you know. They’re nomads. We would still travel around like we always have,” he said in a weak attempt at making things right.

Blood shook his head wordlessly, still feeling betrayed. He left without saying anything.

Vladimir immediately went to Rapha, who tried his best to console him. He felt profound guilt over betraying the friend who had saved his life.

A few miles away, Blood was stomping through the woods, headed in the vague direction of the Southern Icefield. To his dismay, he found that the farther he went, the more he missed his friend. At last he gave up, turning around with a grumble.

Vladimir awoke the next morning to Rapha shaking his shoulder. “V-vladimir! Your f-friend is back!”

Vladimir sat up at once, scarcely believing Rapha’s words. Yet Blood really stood before them, his hulking form seeming somehow gentle.

"I can’t believe this. Two hardened assassins letting emotions run their whole lives. Are you happy now?” his words seemed ornery, but he was smiling.

"I am,” said Vladimir. “Everything I need is right here.”
