Noctren grew up in a simple life. If simple meant that he was growing up in a family where their beauty made them sought after by other clans. So for most of his early days, Noctren grew up in a large burrow underground, waiting for the longest night of the year to pass by so he could see the outside world.

He wasn't able to wait the whole time. After becoming a full grown dragon, he began sneaking out for some moments an hour before sunrise, and then crawled through a hole back to his family. That would change the morning he encountered a Spiral with Shadow flight eyes. He never saw a dragon that had bright orange colors, much less one that appeared so beautiful. The Spiral was rather flattered by his gesture. Before he could talk, he realized sunrise was approaching, and had to leave. But he promised to talk to her tomorrow at the same time.

Noctren came back the following morning and the Spiral, Pele, was waiting. Noctren asked many questions about the outside world, which he never got a chance to ask his family since they wanted him to focus on perfecting his beauty to catch the eye of a wealthy dragon. Confused but also interested, Pele answered his questions every night. Finally, she asked if he could stay to see his first sunrise. Noctren wasn't sure, but he stayed. Both watched as the sun rose, Noctren blinking for a few seconds out of never seeing such a bright light. It was then that Pele saw his colors in the morning light, and both realized that they wanted to be able to see the other, no matter what. So, for the final time, Noctren left his home the next night, and walked with Pele, uncertain, but not afraid while by her side.
