Biography
D R I F T E R
IMPASSIVE, DISSONANT, CONTEMPLATIVE Something was wrong in the land: conflict and terror plagued every community, who were either oppressed in their towns or forced into hiding, homes overrun and temples burning. Separate groups attacked different regions, but a string connected each of the factions—a cruel corruption. Struck with a deadly illness, the Drifter scourged the realms searching for a cure, or answers, for both herself and the people. She found the cause and cut Judgement down, and when she rested under the crumbled remains of their battlefield in the ancient, misguided lab, she waited for Death, and she waited for the Jackal. But neither came; and despite the continuance of her coughs filled with blood, she still woke. She won't ever be free of her disease, but she does imagine peace for herself now. If only—if only she could find him. She thinks of the pink Drifter, the Guard, who found her at the beginning of her journey, when she had yet to face Judgement and had only the first visions of the Jackal. When she closes her eyes, she can still smell his campfire from when she woke under his borrowed cape, after she collapsed at his feet. He was afflicted like her as well, the same disease, the same visions of the Jackal even, and they grew closer. But, in the end, he walked his own path. He said she was stronger and would find the end before him. Last she saw--he was struck down, or laying in blood, one or both, and an enemy nearby. He pushed his sword to her in his last gasping breaths; she carries it still. The Drifter does not believe that he died, however, despite the weight of his trembling body in her arms, a memory that gnaws at her still. But, his same body was missing from the site when she stumbles back into the same clearing later. Someone could have dragged it off someplace else, to bury or scavenge, but, she hopes. So she searches for him now. There are some signs of his continued life. People talk, remember him as if they saw him recently. They often hand her pieces he left behind. But besides her search for him, the Drifter also collects research of the regions she travels. When she's ready to leave, she passes a copy of her record to the people in the region or to the relevant Sanctum. She is adept at technology, and her nose for finding secretive areas is superb. She earns a bit of coin in the Earthshaker's and Lightweaver's domains especially, helping the different clans inspect sites and assist in interpreting ancient writings. She studies linguistics and languages. She mistrusts scientists, but won't turn away from a witch or doctor. She lives quietly and has a permanent residence in the Heartland of Clan [Moonstruck]. She's not an official clansmember, but she is allowed to live among them. They are peaceful and lively; it brings her warm comfort on days where she aches terribly and can't leave her home. Some friends have adopted her as well--two ghostlight ruins coatls and a ghaoler. They are louder than she but invite her often, which she accepts. The ghost hunter, Gloomy, occasionally asks for company on his prowls, and with her sword she goes along with him. | texttofilloutspacefillout |
