Majere's life began with a tragedy when his parents, petty nobles in the Arcanist's domain, were attacked on their journey home from the Sunbeam Ruins. Their crossing through the Plaguelands was beset by misfortune. From a strange pollen that contaminated their food supply to a sudden sandstorm that delayed them, they faced problem after problem that left everyone in their caravan distracted and frustrated. They were vastly unprepared for a bandit raid in the middle of the arid desert, and it took all of their servants and guards to fight off the marauders and protect their cargo. They managed to outrun the bandits and safely crossed the border to Starfall Isles. To everyone's horror, however, they had left behind their most precious cargo in the scuffle against the marauders—Orion and Sonya's firstborn.
The child was, luckily, found by one of the marauders before he perished in the unforgiving wasteland. Raised by the wild and clamorous group of bandits, Majere grew into a loud, confident young man. Life in the wasteland was difficult and oftentimes dangerous, but Majere adapted and thrived. His skill with the bow made him indispensable and his natural charm made him well-loved by many. He was content with his lot in life until his guardian, ill and increasingly sentimental in her old age, told him about the day he was found.
The desire to meet his parents consumed him, and so he said farewell to the brothers and sisters he had considered his family all his life and went in search of his true one. Armed with a sketch of his family crest, he traveled to the Starfall Isles, where he learned that his parents now lived as high nobles in the Observatory.
The servants were baffled by his presence, but once he met his mother and father, there was no question that he was their firstborn. They welcomed him with open arms and tearful faces. His mother promptly ordered the tailor to take his measurements and fill his wardrobe, while his father hired several tutors to teach him everything that the son of a noble ought to know. Majere was delighted by everything, from his spacious rooms to his parents' unwavering attention. But once the novelty faded, he began to feel completely out of his depth. His parents' initial joy inevitably turned to disappointment when he failed to demonstrate the proper social graces befitting someone of his station, when he flew into a rage and attacked another nobleman for calling him an imbecile, and every subsequent time he failed to live up to their exceedingly high expectations.
When left to his own devices, he often escaped to the nearby town, foregoing his full regalia to traipse around in only his kilt, his sun-kissed back gleaming with the curling gold ink of his elaborate tattoos. His amiable nature resulted in several brief dalliances with coy maidens, bold stablehands, and even the blacksmith's shy apprentice. Naturally, his noble parents disapproved. They also disapproved of his other hobbies, like hunting the celestial deer in the estate, sketching pictures of the Plaguebringer in his books, and skipping lessons to swim in the lagoon, among many other things. He could tell that they were losing patience with him, and he himself was growing restless. He missed the thrill of hunting with his companions and the easy camaraderie of his merry band. He missed the unpredictability of life in the Plaguelands and the way life seemed so much sweeter in spite of all the dangers. And so, he eventually decided to return to the Scarred Wasteland, to live out his days the way he wanted.
