- often his desperate attempts to stop 'evil' and his pain lead to him causing worse harm than would have occurred
- his self-imposed exile is entirely voluntary, as he regrets the harm he causes but can't stop it
- occasionally talks with Javiar, the mute poet can speak no evil and only visits with gifts and good intentions
