Biography

EAgQOYH.gif The Shade-Touched Prince

Kaiden used to be a prince. He used to be loved, adored and showered with gifts and attention. He was the jewel in his clan's crown and he loved every second of it. Fate however, does not often let that level of happiness last.

There is a misconception that Shadow flight and the Shade are similar but nothing could be farther from the truth, no flight reviles the Shade like Shadow. They are sick and tired of the association and anything or anyone even suspected of being touched by the Shade is immediately put under intense suspicion and often banished from the clan, or even the flight.

When Kaiden's beautiful shining silver skin first began to darken people were suspicious to be sure but he was their prince and after all, he passed it off as benign Shadow magic. When dark veins started creeping across his body and wings the suspicion only grew, but perhaps it was only as he said, a simple magical appearance change. But then something happened that on one could deny.

Suddenly his eyes turned pure black, darker than the darkest night in the heart of the tangled woods. Then he seemed to lose control of his body, he fell over, shivering violently, then slowly he got up, limbs stiff and awkward like whatever was in control of him was unfamiliar with his body. He surveyed the stunned crowd around him and then began to speak in a voice that was not his own and in a language unknown to all of dragonkind but one that sent chills down the onlookers spines nonetheless. At least that's what he was told had happened when he woke up hours later in a jail cell with no memory what had just occurred.

He was given a day to pack his things and say goodbye, then without any hesitation he was banished from Shadow territory, never to return upon pain of death. And so he left, he headed to Light hoping that scholars there could find a cure for his ailment. Most sane dragons just slammed their doors in his face, even then he had an aura about him that could unsettle even the bravest of dragons.

He wandered for a time, surviving off the land and the occasional kindness of strangers, until he happened upon a little clan nestled away in the Hewn City. The city of shadows, he had heard stories of it as a child, not many were good. Many Shadow dragons were distrustworthy of Light, believing that the darkness of the city came from the Shade itself. But Kaiden simply had no other place to go. So he entered the city, hoping that its denizens would accept him.

No such luck. After dozens more doors closed in his face he found himself on the outskirts of the city, where nature was slowly reclaiming the crumbling ruins. He came across a clearing where he could see lights and hear lively voices through the thick mist. He decided to try his luck one more time, he flew over to one of the buildings closer to him and peaked inside its open door.

Luckily for him Aedan was the dragon who greeted him there. Sweet Aedan who had never met anyone he hadn't considered a friend and who would never turn away a stranger in need. Much to Kaiden's surprise he was taken in with open arms. Aedan led him into the building where a stoic brown tundra watched him from behind a desk.

"Did you bring in another one Aedan?" The tundra asked, looking slightly amused.

"He came here on his own this time," He protested. "Besides, Skelaki's been looking for some extra hands to help out lately."

The tundra turned to him. "Hm, so what's your name? Your story? I'd like to know a bit about you before we let you into the clan."

He took a breath and began, hoping that whatever spell had allowed him to get this far with this clan wouldn't break now. "I am Kaiden, of the Duskfall clan. I have come here seeking a place to stay."

"For how long? I'm sure your clan will want you back eventually."

"No. They wont. I need somewhere to stay indefinitely."

"Hm alright I'll see what I can-"

"What? You're just going to let me in? Like that?"

"Well no, I'll have to run it by Skelkaki and a few of the other older clan members and make sure we have space for you-"

"No but! Why haven't you tossed me out yet? What are you waiting for?"

"I'm not sure what you mean."

"Don't you see?" He limply opened a wing, showing off the dark pulsing tendrils slowly creeping across his skin. "This is why every other clan has thrown me out. What are you doing?"

The tundra contemplated him for a moment before speaking. "Son, in this clan we have not one but two dragons who occasionally loose tangible form, one of whom can speak telepathically and listen to people's thoughts, a guy whose fur ,and possibly his entire body, have turned into leaves and branches and deals with spirits on a daily basis, a couple who are part flame demon or phoenix or something, what makes you think we'd turn you down?"
