Mate: Sekhmet

Genesis is a poorly treated and often scorned worker of the Forgemasters. He's a metallurgist, whose impeccable skill allows him to create mechanical life with the Flamecaller's metals, yet his work is entirely unappreciated. As he's not a pure Banescale, he's often overworked and belittled, given scraps in return for every talented creation he presents the Forgemasters with. Yet, Genesis is either too stupid to realize he's being treated like dirt, or too stubborn to leave. He stays by request of his mate Sekhmet, who, ironically, thinks the worst of him out of all of the forgers. She doesn't love him one bit, ready to toss him out whenever he stops becoming useful. The only reason Sekhmet allows Genesis to skulk around the Forgemaster's grand domain is because they like his projects; as long as they are delivered by Sekhmet, of course. They'd hate to give Genesis even the time of day.

Despite her carefully masked scorn of him, Genesis worships the very ground Sekhmet walks on. He's constantly praising her, helping her, and generally being a total doormat. He's completely enraptured by her, and from the looks of it, very well may think that she loves him back and appreciates all he does. She doesn't, of course, but it's best if he doesn't know that.

Being forced to dedicate most of his life to working for the Forgemasters, lest Sekhmet stop talking to him, Genesis hasn't had much time to develop a hobby or a social life. He left his family behind when he grew up, and he doesn't regret it, or so it seems. But, sometimes, the higher workers of the Cinderslag send Genesis out on menial errands. Perhaps to grab a meal from the marketplace, or to collect precious resources from the miners. When such a thing occurs, Genesis is always sure to enjoy the view and stretch his wings. Even if the skies are filled with ash, it's much less stuffy than his workshop in the depths of the Cinderslag. If he can swing it, he'll go around dusk, if only to catch a glimpse of the sunset. He loves the watercolor visage and radiating heat of the sun, somehow more pure than that of lava. The darkened clouds, the prevailing calm. He can't help but shed a tear. Genesis loves sunsets, they remind him so dearly of home.

{Biography}

Genesis is the closest thing to a “mutt” as you can get, at least as far as Banescale are concerned. None of the progenitors in his bloodline were born a Banescale. They may have born the striking visage of the Ancient born in fire and flame, but contained none of the pure blood that the last clutches of the species contained. Their blood was tainted with modernization. Mixed. Genesis was raised in a clan that contained not even a shred of authentic Banescale blood, and as a consequence lived a sheltered childhood of obliviousness and false normalcy. It was only after fledging and leaving his birthplace to seek out wealthier horizons that Genesis learned that his kind was seen as “lesser” to the superior purebred Banescale. After all, they were remnants of a past thought lost to time. Their blood was pure and untainted. The magically-created Banescale simply couldn’t hope to compare.

But Genesis was not to be deterred. What he lacked in hereditary superiority he made up for in ingenuity. Genesis was born and bred to be a pure Lightning dragon, and he would not let it go to waste. Genesis excelled in creating mechanical life, robots the likes of which few could compare. He had ambitions, and would not be struck down by something as menial as blood. Combining the resilient and hardy metals of the Flamecaller with the science and madness of the Stormcatcher, Genesis crafted unholy creations of metal and lightning. He started with the small things, tiny robots that ran around labs with no real purpose, and clawed his way to creating sentient life. Had he persisted on his own, he had the potential to become a notable scientist.

Yet, Genesis had a life of prosperity and fame snatched away from him the moment he laid his eyes on Sekhmet. His jaw nearly fell from it's hinges-- such beauty, such natural talent! Genesis was immediately enamored. After gathering his courage, he begged the greater Banescale for a chance to prove himself, to become a loyal worker of the Forgemasters. Of course, Sekhmet spat in his face. But Genesis was either too proud or stupid to be deterred, and thus continued to vie for her attention. When he brought her a completely sentient mechanical hatchling, it was then that she finally paid attention to him. After that, Sekhmet presented Genesis to the Forgemasters, saying he could be a useful asset to them. And the rest, was history.

{Trivia}
  • Other than his beloved mate Sekhmet and his higher-ups, Genesis is forbidden from having outside relationships that do not concern the art of forging. But, that isn't to say that he hasn't had his run-ins with any members of the Flock. He accidentally collided into Elysian while rushing through the marketplace on an errand, and quickly denied any chances of a conversation with the worried Banescale. In the past, he was also friends with Ophthalma, as they lived in the same village... though those days are long gone.
  • Genesis's lair, which is really just a smaller room that branches off from his workshop, is filled with various clutter that he's amassed throughout the years. Though sources of entertainment that do not relate to forging are not allowed, random junk is. Worthless yet colorful rocks and dried flowers pressed between papers, broken toys and useless silverware, those are only a few examples of things that litter his room. His most prized possession is a painting of a sunset, but it's hidden behind his cot.
  • Despite living in the Ashfall Waste, Genesis despises hot drinks. Anything he's served usually has to sit out for an hour before it becomes palatable to him.

Oh! Oh! Sekhmet-- Hello my dearest!

Has anyone told you that you're looking ravishing as always?

Bah, that's because they wouldn't know true beauty even if it yelled in their face. Prideful fools, I tell you. I must say, the light of the lava here only does wondrous things upon your gorgeous visage.

Oh, I'm flattered. You really-- oh! Yes, before I forget! I was wondering if you wished to the newest fish-oriented restaurant that opened up in the Cinderslag marketplace? I haven't seen it myself, as it's been quite a while since I've left this place, but I've heard through the grapevine that it's an absolute delight. I promise it'll be a fun occasion for the both of us, I'll even pay!--

.....No? Oh, okay. Th-that's perfectly fine! Perhaps on another date then, when you have the time. I know how busy you are, being Maggmaw's favorite and all. A position well deserved! Yes yes, I'll get back to work my dear.

But um, one more thing! How are our eggs doing?

The nursery again? No no, I'm not complaining, I just-- yes, you don't have time to take care of hatchlings, but I was just hoping-- this time-- maybe I could've seen them this-- I... I'm sorry, I don't know what got into me. I'll get back to work right this instant, maybe the glow of the lava will clear my head.

I love you so, so much Sekhmet. I promise I will make you proud.

"Creation"

“Oh darling."

There it was. That's what he had been seeking. The purr caused a shiver to run down his spine, the spikes along his back positively quivering. She stepped forward, her tail brushing up against his ankle causing his scales to run flush in anticipation. She stared at his creation for a moment longer, then turned back to him. He ate that look up like a starving dragon might leap upon a bountiful feast. She stood in front of him now, extending her neck and placing her teeth so close to his ear. His legs felt like jelly. Her teeth clacked together, and he wanted nothing more than to hear her praise.

"It's gorgeous."
