Biography
"Azure, huh? Doesn't really fit you, does it?"
The dull gray dragon shrugged, and shook his head.
"Coatls aren't supposed to look that dull, right?"
He pulled his hood further over his head before this dragon could get a glimpse of his pale, colorless eyes. This was getting uncomfortable.
"So what, are you sick, or something?"
Don't react. Keep quiet.
The other dragon began to smirk.
"...or are you just bad luck?"
Those schoolyard taunts should have been easy to shrug off, even for a hatchling, but now that he'd had some experience with war, he was starting to think that maybe the little turd had a point. He didn't fight on the front lines, he was much better at the stealth aspect. Sneaking behind enemy lines, planting magical bombs, returning with crucial information, the whole nine yards. It didn't feel like real fighting, but he was good at it.
He was never forced to directly slash another dragon's throat, or lose limbs, or get blown to bits like the other dragons he fought with. It happened so much out here. This wasn't normal, maybe he was just bad luck, but why did that have to be everyone else's problem?
He crouched in his little foxhole as the cannons boomed overhead, the shrieks of the enemy and of his fellow soldiers piercing his mind. If he didn't move, they wouldn't notice him. If he didn't react, didn't make a sound, maybe everything might be okay...
Be silent, be still.
Keep quiet.
