"Did Pixel do good?"

Shortly after their first hatchling prototype had been stolen by members of FL/GHT, Project scientists began thinking of ways they could use all their spare hatchling android parts. They were sure with some updates to their base model, a small hatchling sized dragon, would make a great spy tool. They picked through the bits of code they had managed to snag from the defected model before the break in and set to work. It would end up taking the team eight long months to flush out a perfect (in their eyes) prototype.

[Start up initiated]

A whirring sound could be heard throughout the small white room as two blank icy blue eyes slowly slid open taking in the sight of three dragons in white coats staring back through a protective layer of glass.

“P1x3L stand for us.”
All is quiet for a moment before a whirring is heard again. Within seconds the tiny hatchling like figure pushes itself up into a standing position using it’s back legs and tail to prop itself up.
“Good. Now tell me what is your function?”
“P1x3L’s primary function is intel collection.”
“Very good. Last test P1x3L would you please fly for us?” Two leather bat wings quickly snap open and begin flapping as the small drone starts to hover above it’s platform. It’s flies towards the glass where it’s observers are stood it’s flight patterns a little shaky at first but after a minute or two the prototype becomes more sure of it’s abilities and is flying around the small room with ease. It lands back on the small platform it had started on and stared at the scientists with a proud smile on it’s tiny face.
“Did P1x3L do good?”
“You were acceptable P1x3L”

Every day since P1x3L initial startup she was put through rigorous training while also being force feed as much information as she could retain. Every night before the scientists would leave, she would be tied down to a table and plugged into a computer as her systems were tested and her code was gone through leaving her feeling as if she had been torn into pieces, some nights she was literally torn into pieces as they tried to “upgrade” her. P1x3L never once complained or slowed down. For a month straight she did her best hoping one day her creators would tell her she was doing great. In P1x3L’s mind she felt as if she was getting closer to winning the scientists affections every time she got one of these upgrades, so she started to ask them to upgrade parts of her that she thought weren’t good enough. Little did the poor girl no that would never happen, she was just another machine in the eyes of the scientists. She didn’t need to be nurtured and loved the way a real hatchling did she was just metal parts and coding.

It was a month into the trials and testing that the problems started. At first it was small things like she would go to relay information she had collected and she would stutter over a word or two. As she pushed herself even more she got worse until it wasn’t just words she was stuttering over, she would start to say something and pause in the middle of her speech and freeze up and her eyes would dim slightly, but then they would start to glow brightly again and she would restart her speech from the beginning without realizing anything had happened or that she was retelling information she had already shared. The final straw her creators was when she started started smoking while flying through a training course, she stalled mid air and fell uselessly to the floor, her eyes going completely black.
“What happened this time?”
“I don’t know sir it just stopped working.”
“Well turn it back on and try again!”

A quick reboot had P1x3L’s eyes glowing their icy color again but as soon as she went to make a movement she crashed again. The second time the scientist tried to restart her nothing happened. With a deep sigh the dragon turned to their higher up “I think this one is Fried sir we could try and troubleshoot but it would take at least a week to get it back up and running.”
“Don’t even bother with that one we have all it’s specs backed up we can just build a new one who’s programs already works with all the upgrades, it was only a prototype anyway.”
“As you wish sir.” It was with those final four words that P1x3L was carelessly tossed into a nearby bin to be scrapped and taken out on the next junk run. None of the scientist even spared the little drone a second glance before they all walked off into another room to start working on P2x3L.
