Iris Blind | Silver-tongued | Loves music As a child, Iris was largely isolated due to being the only child of a noble family and felt as if she struggled to understand others. However, when she snuck away one night and became lost, she encountered a mysterious being who promised to give her what she desired for a price. Naive enough to accept, she was horrified when the being stole her eyes as payment. Struggling to come to terms with her blindness, Iris found she was beginning to hear voices... whispers that spoke, in an abstract sense, of the thoughts of those around her. Far from what she had hoped for, the ability was intrusive and hurtful - to find every kind word masking a cruel truth, every act of generosity motivated by personal gain... more and more, she distanced herself from others emotionally and built up a wall. Over time she came to terms with her new perspective, and even put her talent to good use. She became exceptional at understanding the true intent of others, and in using words as a weapon to make people believe precisely what she wanted. This earned her a position as the royal ambassador. Jaded and scornful of the plots and posturing surrounding her, Iris projects a persona of one perfectly at ease in her environment. Her only interest in her work is to prevent everyone else's petty behaviour creating a mess for the rest of the kingdom, though at times she daydreams of doing the opposite simply to admire the catastrophe and finally gauge the extent of the power her position grants her. She is lonely and dissatisfied, often self destructive in the way she treats herself when no one else can see. When she first met Rosa she considered her to be nothing more than an entertaining distraction. She might admire her stubbornness, but she considers Rosa's plan to be childish. However, Rosa's complete lack of political power means that Iris can speak freely to her without the care or craft she is accustomed to. The more time she spends with her, the more she lets her mask slip, and the more her affection for the woman grows. Iris gets terrible headaches sometimes, has a morbid fear of open water, and detests any time people treat her with pity. She also loves music, and has been known to attend concerts, or even invite talented musicians to visit her own estate. |
