They walk through the undergrowth with a dancer's grace, causing no more noise than a soft, spring breeze. Juno goes unnoticed, their freckled hide shifting to match the subtle shades of light and shadow of her hunting grounds. Only when they open their many eyes does their prey know that they've been spotted. The sudden presence of their piercing green eyes is often enough to paralyze their prey with fear; no one predator should have that many eyes. There could only be a pack of them, thousands shape-shifting monsters with venomous claws that glow faintly in the darkness. Juno hunts alone, but their prey never lives long enough to figure it out.

He was the only one who has ever caught them off guard. No one else, dragon or beast, had ever managed to fool their senses. Juno was aware of all life in their forest. They knew the landscape like the surface of their own pearl, the fauna like their own hatchlings. Yes, they took life. But they also cared for it, watching the rise and fall of populations so that all would flourish. They had noticed when the Skydancer had begun to hunt in their territory, taking far more than they knew the small scrap of woodland could support. But he had caught them.

Their limbs were pinned painfully to the ground, and at least four of his claws were dangerously close to their eyes.
