Biography

Kirins are native to a small frozen lake hidden deep within the Fortress of Ends. This foggy place is their only known habitat so far and therefore they’re quite the rare sight.

Lao Tzu, ("Old Master") also transliteraed as Lauzi and Lao-tze, is the legendary philosopher credited with founding Daoism/Taoism. His teachings were spread orally until centuries later when some Daoists compiled his teachings into Dao De Jing. It is written poetically and is difficult to translate, but not completely inaccessible to modern people.

In Chinese mythology, kirin are chimera creatures with carp sclaes, ox body, deer antlers and dragon head. They are exceptionally rare, but can be seen around the arrival or passing of a great sage or ruler. Upon making contact with Somali traders, giraffes were seen as living kirin, possibly due to their long legs and gentle gait matching Buddhist descriptions of the creature refusing to walk on grass for fear of harming it. Europeans have associated kirin with unicorns, thanks to some depictions of kirin with a single horn in their foreheads.
