Biography

Scriptae is one of the Librarians who helps facilitate the Scholar's ambitions.

She also keeps the Clan's history:
The Temple of Morax lies far to the South. (Well, now it's the North. The Cathedral wanders to wherever it is most needed, after all.) Precisely where is hard to say, as mirages on the lightning fields are common. As are crystal mirroring illusions in the excavations of the Rest.
Seated on a natural pillar within the Carrion Canyon, or deep into the crystal-studded spine of the Cairnstone Rest, the Temple rises into Spires, once designed to prevent mirages on the ice fields, then converted into a shielding device and power collector from the continually striking lightning, now converted to take in the ambient energies of the prehistoric magics the Rest emits from the many ancient graves it sits upon.
Within the Most Glorious Central Cathedral, healer-priests of all stripes peacefully work together to heal and strengthen the dragons of Morax.
Sorry, did we say peacefully?
The Rest is a dangerous place, after all, and many warriors have come out of the wastes. The priests will not admit to their own power, but the constant presence of the Zamad Guard Corps. speaks for itself. And that's without mentioning the near-Klingon Promotion System within the Church itself. Many bodies lie buried in the catacombs of the church, victims of taking their eyes off the prize...

A Note About Beginnings; Or, An Introduction.
The Southern Ice Fields weren’t always that way. In a different Age, they held many fruitful species, from plants to insects to all different kinds of animals. The Second Age, the Age of the Magi grew from its fruitful bosom, and repaid in kind with great temples, mighty castles, and even cathedrals. The cathedrals are of particular note to this story, so a proper description of one in its glory days seems in order.
Its form was created to draw eyes towards the heavens, rising up to tower over the landscape. The great doors of wrought iron and stained glass depicted in painstaking beauty the pillar and all the forces of nature, reminding all those who entered of the majesty they worshiped. The central hall, circular in shape and massive in dimension, was surrounded by circular windows portraying great Magi of the past, the ceiling itself sweeping up into a great barrel vault from which hung richly decorated tapestries with the symbols of the faith. The eight pillars marking off elemental directions were each tiled in lavish mosaic to that element, with scriptures written on every surface so as to better teach those admiring this feast for the eyes. The Scriptorium crouched next to the main hall, a great dome surrounded by gardens and walkways, inside the resting place of hundreds of books. The cathedral was not a library, after all, and only housed a limited number of religious texts and maps. Behind the central tower sat a smaller, rectangular building- housing for acolytes and workers. Below the grounds were several cellars in which laundry was done, spirits were brewed, and all the daily tasks needed to keep the cathedral running smoothly took place. In the stories above the great hall lay requilaries and high level teaching rooms for the more powerful magi. Here were kept runestones, artifacts, and the most sacred knowledge. Finally, at either end of the grounds to the east and west, stood a small belltower meant to guide worshippers in to the grounds.
Of course, that was in the glory days of the second age, when magi freely roamed the land and the gods slept. When the Arcanist awoke, he ruptured the earth and the structures atop tore with it. When the Shade attacked, though the world survived, the great continent splintered. What was once the breadbasket of the world drifted south, replaced by a great inland sea. As the gods argued, the plants and animals, not used to such cold climbs began to sicken and die. When finally the Icewarden appeared to claim the land as his own, he reshaped the dying land in his own image, coating what was once filled with glorious tropical life in a shell of cold, changing the living creatures into those that could survive in his domain, and burying the Great Cathedral beneath the ice.
There it sat, it’s ruins carefully preserved, for hundreds of years, until a young iterant healer- priest called Xeo arrived on the Ice fields, looking for a place to set up a new outpost to heal and treat those lost in the blizzards and mirages common in that part of the realm. That is where the history of the Cathedral of Morax truly begins in the Age of Dragons. From here, stories fragment, truth and lies intertwine, and everyone wants something…

A Note About Magic in the Cathedral
There are two types commonly known in the Cathedral (the scholars are researching a third, but that is very much kept secret, especially given the failures.) Inborn, and gathered. Either one can be a dark mage, and the same with the elements. Light users are just as likely to go as shadow users, no matter what some priests believe. Ceo is a gathered. She does not belong to any mage bloodline, and instead concentrates her magic, mostly Ice and Life, through her staff, and eventually, her chains. Circumtime is Inborn, the son of Time and Blood users, and focuses his magic through the gems on his chest (and occasionally his extra eyes.) Azarin has a rather weak bloodline for Sight but prefers gathered Chaos and Venom.
See Arcane Runes for all categories of non-elemental magic.
