Nothing but Void. No life, no sound, no time, even. Just Void. But then, something appeared. It was Void, yet it was also something else, something so empty yet undoubtedly alive, and the Void did not know what to make of it. And so, the Void treated the being much like how it treats any others who trespass in it, and swiftly the creature was banished from it.
But that is not where this story ends. Though the being should have been destroyed by its banishment, for it was Void and it should, could only exist inside that Void, it did not. Instead, it was shattered into countless pieces and spread across the land it was banished to, never to be whole again.
Cold.
That was all the Nocturne felt, exhausted and injured as she was, the clear winter sky above her. She knew she would not last, but she wanted to, had to get her child to safety. She clutched the egg tighter, feeling it's warmth on her scales. She couldn't die here, or else her child would surely perish. But she could feel the frost creeping up her legs, and as she laid there, struggling to move, she knew her mission was a futile one. With one last breath, the life left her eyes, her body and her child surrendered to the snow.
At that moment, a tiny, colourless sliver descended from the sky, slowly fluttering downwards much like a snowflake, and landed on the now freezing-cold egg. A hairline seam started to spread across the egg. And then another. And another. Crack...
