I came to be in sweltering heat and light,
a desert stretched and filled my sight.
As I screamed and scoured the skies
for any purpose, for a name,
nothing came that desolated day.
The sun seared reminders on to my body,
skin burnt black and hair bleached fair,
as I traversed the sandy landscape here.
Fate was kind to grace me each night
with shelter, water, and food boon.
I prayed for salvation and haven silently
fearing that I was unjustly forsaken.
On the fourth morning of aimless quest,
I awoke to an unusual scent and noise
made by a woman with eyes of turquoise.
Her laughter was water to my dried senses
as she pulled me to my feet despite my hesitation.
That unwavering confidence fueled me slowly,
she feared no thing as she led me forth.
Days and nights blurred together,
then suddenly we were thither.
Hesitation anchored my feet
as many faces rushed to greet,
but I uncoiled with her gentle entreat.
Their welcome disarmed me to tears,
still does now after many seasons passed.
I haven't been to the desert since then,
but now travel there as an old man.
Gazing upon the barren landscape,
reminded me of all things to rejoice over.
My wife had long passed away,
but our legacy grows and thrives
in our descendants today.
I lie down one last time,
my gaze on the blazing skies
that had marked me long ago.
