An incredibly talented young magician, Cecil is the youngest Head of Hall at Home. He was born in Water but left at a very young age, travelling through several Flights before eventually being hired at Home. Cecil is one of those rare few dragons born with cross-Flight magical abilities; though he was born in Water and has Water eyes, he has Ice magic. A common side effect of cross-Flight magic, he was an incredibly sickly hatchling and still struggles with chronic health problems, including very weak wings, that led to a persistent fear of flying. Almost in defiance of his humble beginnings, Cecil recognized his talent at an early age, and fought to perfect his skills. Most universities of magic do not accept cross-Flight magicians, so Cecil's skill is even more extraordinary considering he is a largely self-taught magician. As an extremely competent Ice magician, Cecil specializes in offensive battle magic. An additional bonus to his serving as one of the Heads of Halls means that Home's few cross-Flight residents have a tutor experienced and knowledgeable about their instructional needs. Despite his young age, Cecil exudes a natural gravitas that makes him a difficult dragon to ignore or underestimate. He is serious and often solemn, and his obvious skill and mastery of his craft have lent him a bit of a larger-than-life reputation around Home. He bears the responsibility of his work well, knowing that studying magic is often dangerous and his magical proficiency could be the difference between life and death for his students. Cecil is an exceptional teacher, and though he rarely cracks jokes like some of Home's other teachers, he has a dry sense of humor and a bit of a sarcastic wit. He has great pride in his Hall, and loves teaching the gifted magicians in Jǫtunheimr above all. Indeed, he has a wary and over-cautious streak that leads to him often underestimating his magical students from other Halls. Cecil eventually decided to teach only advanced magic classes after he discovered he spent more time explaining safety protocol than actually teaching beginner classes. While that's been an improvement, Cecil remains the rather jumpy and nervous sort. He tends to be indecisive, which is unfortunate - because he's such a bright dragon, he can spend days debating a choice with himself. He also has a protective streak a mile wide, and would rather put himself in danger than see any of Home's residents get hurt. Cautious tendencies aside, Cecil also carries a bit of a dramatic bent - he loves showing off (within reason) and is always immaculately well-groomed. Despite his anxious nature, Cecil tends to be have a very easy-going teaching style, caring much more about the personal achievements of his students than sticking to a struct curriculum. Quiet and a bit jumpy but a prodigious magician who deeply cares about his students, Cecil is a fantastic and much-admired Head of Hall.

I intend to arrive to my death late, in love, and a little drunk.
Behind the Name... Cecil is a Welsh name derived from the Old Welsh Seisyllt, which likely referred to a local Celtic tribe and kingdom. |
For so long I was a leaf I clung to the branch of a dying tree I made the best of the rest of October I wished him well, his well was dry The secret of life, now I've got the key But I can't find the lock, so it's no use to me I followed the trail of a snail and it led down to the banks of the river bed And it shimmered when the light hit it But that's not the point and I'm scared that you'll miss it See, it doesn't matter how long it takes I'm getting further every single day |
