B R E N D A N
Story by Satchen Brendan was born with an intense desire to explore the world and travel. Even as a child, he hated having to stay in one location because of his drive to explore. He became a hunter for his clan just so he could see the world around him. Eventually, his parents gave up trying to persuade him to give up his wanderlust and allowed him to travel throughout Sornieth as an older adolescent. Having his parents’ blessing to travel made Brendan extremely happy. He travelled to the Windswept Plateau and visited Dragonhome. After seeing all of the sites he wanted to see, he began to return home to the Sunbeam Ruins. Brendan felt an internal struggle while he was staying in the Windswept Plateau. He loved the philosophy of the Wind Flight: go where the wind and your wings take you. There was no such thing as permanence, no such thing as clan loyalty. It was a simple, beautiful philosophy that appealed so much to Brendan. The conflict when he realized that his best friend, Connor, would miss him dearly. Brendan knew that he would be able to visit Connor and that was enough for him, but it wasn’t enough for his best friend. Because of this, Brendan knew he couldn’t stay in the Windswept Plateau forever. He decided to return to his clan during the spring, travelling across the Starfall Isles and the Scarred Wasteland with no trouble. When he was getting closer to home, he became lost in the Tangled Wood. He’d known that travelers could easily get lost and many dragons unfamiliar with the area often avoided it, but he was the brave, adventurous traveler. Nothing can stop me, he told himself. Nevertheless, he became lost for weeks, worrying his clan. Connor decided to look for him, since he went walking through the eastern end of the Tangled Wood for many years. Connor found Brendan in the woods, scared and worried that he would never see his clan or his best friend again. It was a terrifying experience for him, but he felt such intense relief when his best friend came looking for him. When he returned home, he loved telling stories about the sights he’d seen and the dragons he met. While he never truly admitted it to Connor, he knew that he’d missed his friend the entire time he was travelling. |
