Biography

Deus “Spiritcaller” Greyscale

Male // He/Him // Straight
- - - - - D E U S ,- S E E K E R

Furry Icewarden Puppet - - - ▢ Personality and Role
Deus is a Seeker with a bit of a conflicted character. Well, conflicted between acting stuck-up and proclaiming himself better than everyone else, or secluding himself for days on end and wallowing in self-pity and doubt. He's often under quite a bit of stress, which stems from his ability to see and interact with Ice-alighned spirits, despite his own element of Fire. Some more traditional Gaolers want to use this power to their advantage, but also disapprove of the element in which he was born and had no control over. Coupled with the fact that Deus is younger than almost everyone else in the Caravan, it leads to some older dragons trying to boss him around, convinced that they are superior and he is their subordinate. Deus doesn't exactly take out his frustrations in the healthiest way, though. He bosses others around, using his spirit-seeing power as leverage. This is especially bad with other dragons near his age. He has an unhealthy crush on Luvai, and despite her constant oblivious nature to his advances (and already present girlfriend), he's convinced that she'll fall in love with him if he just tries a little harder. He's rivals with Uncertainty, and while he gloats at the fact that the Tundra is jealous of his powers, Deus himself is jealous that Uncertainty is closer with Luvai and Ruin than he will ever be. As for Ruin, the dark-furred Gaoler largely ignores his younger brother. It's... safe to say that Deus doesn't fare too well in the Caravan as far as personal relationships go, but for some reason he just refuses to leave.
Chimera Pelt - - - - ▢ History
Deus is only a bit younger than his elder brother Ruin, directly under him in the lineage in fact. He was one of the last to be born into the elite Greyscale family of Gaolers, and decided to seek out his older brother when the family finally disbanded. On the way, Deus figured out that he had a bit of uncanny ability. Despite being a Fire Gaoler, he attracted and even could see spirits of Ice. This includes everything from a lowly frostbite hummingbird, and remnants of living icestorms that were once used in war as a last resort. This power was used as leverage to get himself taken into the Caravan, as they had grown a bit bigger than they were comfortable with and were hesitant on taking in any new members. Given that this ability was the main reason he was even allowed to live with Ruin, it's no surprise that training to hone that power began immediately. Fortis, to Starflower, to Justice, to even multiple Arcane dragons have all attempted to train Deus at one point. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to flourish under any one mentor. Any attempt to try and control or harness his powers has been unsuccessful, and it would appear that the best help they can give Deus is to simply leave him alone. And so, the Caravan has abandoned the prospect of training Deus, giving him the role of Seeker and allowing him to work on his own. Those he's often called to act as an assistant for tasks that require an extra set of paws, Fortis tries his best to make sure that no one takes advantage of Deus and overworks him. Still, Deus is often rather grumpy at this arrangement, and doesn't exactly get along with others his age as well. No one knows if he'll stay in the Caravan forever. Some hope that he will just leave already, while others want him to stay and see his powers blossom. Like his method of learning, Deus's fate is uncertain.
Potato Onion - - - - ▢ Name
"Deus", in a bit of irony, translates to "deity" in some forms of Ancient Draconic. When used in a word as a root, it may also translate to "celestial" or "shining". Given that the Greyscale family were quite well-versed in Ancient Draconic, they gave Deus his forename in hopes that he would achieve a bright future. Still, though he does have a unique power, he is far from a deity. His last name, "Greyscale" is his family name of course. Though their pelts are not completely monochromatic grays, blacks, and whites, their fur largely lacks color except in streaks and scattered markings. His nickname, "Spiritcaller", was received upon his indoctrination into the Caravan, and bluntly states his most defining attribute and the reason he was even allowed in in the first place.

▢ Trivia
  • To keep up their rivalry, Uncertainty and Deus often engage in "friendly sparing". In other words, hurling a variety of spells at each other while Deus's spirits all clamor and give different advice on how to beat the Tundra. Despite being at an elemental disadvantage, Uncertainty is surprisingly slippery and his Ice attacks do more than they should. Deus has to refrain from stepping on the annoying pest and getting kicked out. Ruin and Luvai watch almost all the battles, and Luvai is kind enough to cheer on both of them.
  • Is terrified of Ysolda. Ysolda does not appreciate some stuck-up nice-guy sniffing after her daughter when said daughter is already in a happy relationship, and takes very chance to let Deus know that. Deus tries his best to avoid her, or else he risks a wilting death-stare.
  • Is able to help the spirits that surround him possess empty vessels. Mostly these include inanimate objects and spiritless golems, but at one point Deus accidentally helped a spirit repossess it's recently deceased body. He just about had a heart attack, and then promised to never speak about it with anyone.
