Biography

Alaurun
EWKvAKV.gif An older dragon tasked with fixing anything broken. From machinery to dragons wounded in combat he's the one to go to if you need it repaired.

When he was a young bright-eyed teenager Alaurun had a passion for taking things apart and learning how they worked. The first thing he remembers disassembling is an old clock that was kept by his bedside. Unfortunately it didn't quite go as planned. Fearing he had broken it he took it to the dragon he called his father. Instead of getting mad his father took the clock from him and taught him how to fix it. Alaurun was much more careful in the future when he took things apart, drawing the insides piece by piece so that he would have something to look at when he had to put them back together.

When he was a young adult dragon he got an offer to study under a workman who specialized in fixing things. His father urged him to take the job knowing that nothing would make Alaurun happier than following his dreams. It would also be easier to hide the growing financial burden he was facing from Alaurun. So off he went none the wiser to the troubles at home.

Over the years he would write his father constantly with all the new things he was learning and bragging about how when he got back he could fix up the lair they shared with his new skills. Find a job and treat his father to an early retirement. His father didn't let on the burden he was under however. He kept it a secret that he had become a mercenary for hire in order to bring in some treasure. The letters to Alaurun became more and more infrequent. So much so that Alaurun began to worry.

One day the letters stopped. Alaurun had another year left of his apprenticeship however he loved his father more. He went out to search for him, stopping any courier dragon he saw along the way for clues as to his whereabouts. It took months of countless searching and struggles before he found his first lead. By chance he ran into the courier who delivered his father's last letter. Luckily this courier had a great memory and upon hearing a description told Alaurun she had seen him last near the Crystalspine Reaches.

Alaurun set off towards the location with haste. Battling his way through enemies to reach his destination. At this point almost 5 months had past since the letters from his father stopped. By the 6th month Alaurun reached his destination. There he looked what seemed to be everywhere before finding a cave. It shone bright with the crystals of the reaches, contrasting greatly with the scene within.

In the cave lied the body of his father, torn to pieces and eaten by the beasts of the reach. His body was not the only one in the cave. The carcasses of 5 other dragons lay nearby in the same state as his father's. Alaurun wept for hours upon the discovery.

After he had exhausted himself he looked around, searching for a reason why this had happened. Near his father's body was a leather-bound journal. It's cover stained with blood. He opened it slowly in order to read it's contents, needing an answer. On it's last page he read:
Father's Journal wrote:
My dear boy
I apologize that you had to learn of everything like this. I pray that you never find this journal as I fear the danger's you would have to face to lead you here. I hope you are off finishing your apprenticeship safe and sound. I'm writing this more for my own peace of mind. If you do somehow find this then I hope that this gives you the answers you need to move on.

I came to this desolate place with this rag-tag group in order to hunt down some members of the beast-clans. The pay was good and we desperately needed it. My finances have been dwindling over the years after my wife died. I blame no one but myself, I was too caught up in maintaining my image to the public. I never budgeted, I continued to live how I had back when she was alive and our family was in the height of their glory.

You were the one who helped me see the light. But by then it was already too late. I found you in an abandoned nest. Lost to the elements, your parents nowhere to be seen. I waited for a few days to see if they would come back for you however no one ever appeared. I took your egg home with me. It didn't take long for you to hatch from your egg. I loved you the moment my eyes laid on yours. You taught me that there was something more important in this world than money. Something even my wife couldn't even do. Funny how these things work out.

I do not know how much longer I have left. Two of the others have gone out to scout the area for danger. I was severely wounded in the last skirmish I had with the beast-clan's members. I hope that I can make it home to see you, but I must be realistic. I may not be your biological father but I have always seen you as my son. I hope you will be able to forgive me for taking this secret to my grave. I am a selfish man. I love you son, live your best life away from all this madness.

His hands shook. His claws could barely hold onto the journal in his hands. He wept once more long into the night.

Over the sorrow and grief he persevered. He took the bodies from the cave and dug graves for each one. He chiseled their names retrieved from his father's notes into crystals to use as headstones.

From there he wandered aimlessly until he came across the lair of the endless. The dragons here always want to hear traveler's tale's. They welcomed him here, gave him a room and food for the night in exchange for his story. Once finished the leader offered him a more permanent residence until Alaurun figured out what he wanted to do, to which he accepted.

In the lair of the endless Alaurun found many different types of dragons. Everyone had their own story of hardship to share, and their own role to fill in the clan. Before him everyone lamented broken things and would have to replace them often, having no one to repair the broken things. Roofs and walls that collapsed were left abandoned and the families moved to new homes. Alaurun wanted to repay the dragons of his new home for their help in his darkest times, so set up a shop to repair things around the clan for a decent price. He soon became an irreplaceable member of the lair.

As time marched on and the guilt he felt fading, Alaurun decided to immerse himself in the art of healing. He wanted to mend everyone who got hurt, if there were more dragons like that maybe his father wouldn't be dead right now. He became good at it, specializing in mending the wounds of others. Now he prides himself in his ability to fix everything his claws touch. He gets a deep satisfaction in knowing that his abilities are helping others.

Alaurun looks like the mysterious figure you meet in some sci-fi setting. Maybe they're the guy who hangs around the shadowed area of the cantina, the one the main character approaches looking for a way out of the planet.
