Biography
LAI
prev. ~ PHANTOM
boon of dusk
An ordinary hatchling with some slightly unusual circumstances. They act like many other young dragons—naïve, curious, cheerful, and a little stubborn at times—and appear the same as one, the only unusual aspect perhaps being the bright runes patterning their hide.
Hailing from the Tangled Wood, Lai's egg hatched alone, surrounded by a sudden influx of Shadow magic in the Wispwillow Grove. Their shifting runes mimic the eerie glow of the Glow Mushrooms native to the Shadow Domain. Seemingly as a result of this event, their talent for Shadow magic far exceeds the capabilities of most dragons their age, and even simple spells tend to explode out of control from raw power under their casting. The destructive backfires have so far been limited to buildings and structures, but the rubble left behind the sites quite clearly demonstrate how a dragon in the vicinity would probably be similarly affected.
Had Lai chosen to become an evil mage or something of the sort, there would probably have been few dragons able to stand in their way in the future. As it stands, though, the most evil of their deeds have been limited to swiping one or two extra desserts and playing little pranks on clanmates, the second of which was probably expected of a true Shadow dragon anyway. Their sweet tooth and mischievous streak have both been proven incorrigible. Luckily, their empathetic nature makes them unwilling to play pranks that would harm or seriously distress a victim. Unluckily, they are much less merciful towards any sweets with the misfortune to sit in their line of sight.
Their friendly and lively personality endeared them to the rest of the clan quickly, and they have been a longtime member and familiar face around, which makes their departure rather bittersweet for everyone: Lai has recently decided to set out to see more of the world. Lai also figures that before they get older, they should perhaps aim to apprentice themself to a more capable mage to help get a better handle on magic.

Once upon a time, surrounded by the perpetual gloom of the Wispwillow Grove, an egg hatched under an auspicious influx of Shadow magic. The hatchling that emerged into the Tangled Wood was Lai, a dragon with a peculiar destiny. Lai's scales bore intricate runes, mirroring the eerie glow of the Shadow Domain's Glow Mushrooms, a testament to the uncanny magic that graced their birth. This phenomenon granted Lai an extraordinary affinity for Shadow magic, far surpassing their peers. However, their spells often burst forth with untamed power, leaving destructive trails in their wake. Despite their immense potential for darkness, Lai chose a path of innocence and light. Although capable of immense destruction, they limited their "evil" deeds to swiping extra desserts and playing harmless pranks on their clanmates. The clan embraced Lai, finding joy in their empathetic nature and lively spirit. However, as Lai grew older, they yearned to explore the world beyond their familiar grove and hone their magic under the guidance of a skilled mentor. With a bittersweet farewell, they embarked on a journey, seeking knowledge and control over their extraordinary powers, eager to make their mark on a world both wondrous and perilous.
