One of the first re-awakened clutch of Banescale hatchlings, Maalik's egg was carried out of Fire by g1 traders looking to make a quick buck, and he wound up hatching in Ice. The irony of being a member of the Ancient Fire breed and also being an Ice dragon by birth is not lost on him. Incredibly bright and an extremely talented magician, Maalik picked up magical proficiency from a very young age. Ice magicians are notoriously dangerous and unstable, and only the very best are encouraged to pursue advanced study. Maalik more than qualified to continue magical training. He is one of the very few dragons at Home to ever switch Halls; initially appointed to Jǫtunheimr Hall, he quickly realized he did not fit in well (often finding his former Hallmates "pretentious" and "boring") and switched to Helheim Hall, which is a much better fit. Gruff, prickly, and irritable, Maalik is most often terse and brusque. Aside from his magical skill, which is excellent, he is a wonderful linguist - ironic, given his less than talkative personality. He tends to be curt and short with others, often coming across as upset or full of himself to those who don't know him well. He's also a very private fellow and easily becomes suspicious when he feels other dragons are being nosy, and may wind up offending other dragons when he becomes defensive over what they see as small talk. All of these traits can make him difficult to get to know, but it's well worth the effort. Although he struggles with verbally expressing his feelings, Maalik will always gladly translate documents for Home's historians and scholars, and he can always be found at practice sessions with Helheim's other magic students. He knows perfectly well how dangerous Ice magic can be, and he has internalized the belief that he himself is dangerous, leading to him often shying away from others and keeping his distance. It's difficult for him to get close to others, but he has finally grown comfortable with his Hallmates. Maalik is well-known for being very creative and talented at thinking outside the box, and his intelligence and level head make him a well-trusted friend. Though he won't tell them he appreciates their company in as many words, Maalik's love language is acts of service, and he can always be counted on to be very reliable and help out without needing to be asked. He thrives off being a dragon you can always count on.
