Biography

Nyobe, First of Her Blood and Mother of Generations

Nyobe hatched among the first wave in the last clutch and took to the sky, quickly growing into the strength and wingspan to fly and continuing the song of long ago. She's savvy and tends to hold back until she has a read of others before entering either a clan, a lair, a conversation, or a fight.

Nyobe wants to join a clan and is keenly aware that the first generation of her reborn breed will be important for their kind of rise to their full potential, and has a bit of an attitude about dragons that since the restoration of the Banescale have used magic to join their kind, as they aren't "real" Banescales.

Children are still a ways off as Nyobe grows up, but the adolescent already wants many. There's only a short span of years to make herself a matriarch among the new Banescales, and have generations descended from her blood. As she calls upon hospitality of clans on the Ashfall Waste in her travels on the wing flying free, Nyobe is keeping her eyes open for the perfect mate.

He has to be strong, brave and able to fight. Stoic and hard, a skilled fighter both in the air and on the ground. The sort of Banescale drake who will lay waste to anyone who threatens a Banescale nest ever again.

Now in their travels together, Nyobe and Ashiya found themselves in trouble in the Scorched Forest, outmatched and outleveled by the monsters and Beasts. Before the two could flee with the last of their strength, help arrived in the form of two other young Banescales.

The 11th power males easily wiped out the Scorched Forest beasts, and just as Nyobe flared her ruby fans in interest at the honeydew colored male, he introduced himself at Rakeshi of the Banescale of the Clan of Auriela, and then stumbled over his own ivory plumage and fell flat on his face in front of Nyobe. As he wrestled himself up with his hardened wingtips, the other male with eyes going down his body, blinking lazily in time with his own properly positioned Lightning eyes introduced himself as Thrawn of the Banescale, Rakeshi's brother.

Curious if a little no longer impressed with Rakeshi, a fellow ready to breed adult and 11th power or not, Nyobe asked about their clan as the four took to the sky. And Nyobe is deeply interested in hearing about a Fire clan that holds her kind so highly. And she's a bit jealous of the idea that the two males have a mother who raised them, slightly overly-devout priestess or not.

Struggling with her wings and length, Nyobe started to lag behind, until suddenly she saw Rakeshi pivot nearly in place in the air and come back to her. And suddenly flying got much easier as Rakeshi was flying above her and she saw a light green glow about. She looked at his eyes as he said in a rapidfire chatter that he's a Wind dragon, and flew from a very early age and has Wind magic and that's his best friend in all of Sornieth flying with Ashiya so she's perfectly safe and Mama is great and Auriela is pretty. As Rakeshi helps her fly and they head for his clan's territory, maybe he's not quite as bad as he seemed when he tripped over his own feathers.

Now the young adults have settled their own cave in the clan's turf, setting up house as a group in a smaller cave above the main caves. Hunting with Rakeshi and seeing that his high-energy chatty personality doesn't reflect being any less capable at hunting or fishing, or in battle, Nyobe is starting pretty comfy with Rakeshi.

Comfy enough one night as the lava flows lit the night, Nyobe invited Rakeshi to chase her on a flight. Nyobe flew her hardest, wanting to make sure she proved to herself that Rakeshi was a worthy mate.

A flight that started as just taking to the freedom of the Ashfall's skies turned to something else, a breakneck daring chase that demanded every scrap of agility in the air Nyobe had to keep ahead of the Wind-aligned and stronger Rakeshi. She didn't expect, as she made a sharp pivot to abruptly turn back past him, for Rakeshi to strike her hard with a Wind Slash and knock her off her flight rhythm, long enough to catch up to and catch her with his talons

Even as Rakeshi was apologizing for the strike, Nyobe was sure that she had found a worthy mate to join her on that hatching ground. Even if he's not hard and stoic, he's brave, strong and agile, and must have good lung capacity with the amount of talking he can do on one breath.

And now after their courting flight, advice from some of the older females in the clan, and one night, Nyobe found it getting harder and harder to fly, even with her mate's magical help. Together on the nesting grounds, Nyobe laid three eggs, the beginnings of her glorious rise as a matriarch of the Banescales.

Incubation passed, Nyobe and Rakeshi switching off hunting and sitting their eggs. Rakeshi tried several times to feed crushed bugs and chewed up meat to the eggs, while Nyobe turned them as guided by the other females and fanned them to spread Fire's heat for her unborn generations.

Nyobe's unborn generations of mighty descendants suddenly became very real and very scary when the first egg pipped, a crack in the egg and a little leaf snout sticking out taking its first breaths. She had imagined being a great matriarch with many descendants.

She hadn't imagined being a mother of small, helpless babies. That her wandering life across the Ashfall Waste narrowed down to this, settled life in an ancient lair with her own hatchlings. Afraid of this suddenly uncertain future, Nyobe picked up the small bag of her things, including the sparkling Seeker and Haunted Orbs Rakeshi had given her as treasures.

Carrying her bag, Nyobe headed back to the nesting grounds from their cave, where Rakeshi was on duty, resting on the rim of a lava pool hunkered down and covering the eggs with his great wings. He was a strong dragon, the eggs would be safe with him. Nyobe turned from the nesting grounds and headed to the open land in front of the main lair where Trinket was standing watch and eating java sparrows to stay awake. Telling a quick lie that she was just going to hunt food for the soon to hatch eggs, Nyobe took off.

A day passed as Nyobe and Ashiya crossed the border onto the Windswept Plateau, her heart hurting thinking of her eggs on the Clan of Auriela's nesting grounds. This was better though, they'd be better without her, Rakeshi had his clan to help.

Stopping on the Zephyr Steppes, Nyobe called upon a thriving if small Wind clan, led by a Wind Skydancer and her Fire Guardian mate. And included a pair of her fellow Banes, a Wind male of green and pink with plumage and a Shadow female, herding five new hatchlings through bug mounds to eat.

The pain in her heart took her breathe away. She had to go back. Nyobe jumped up and said goodbye to Ashiya, telling her she was always welcome in Nyobe's lair and hearth, but that she couldn't do this wandering life of theirs anymore.

Nyobe took back to the sky, winging back to the Great Furnace as fast as she could. Maybe she hadn't missed all her children hatching yet.

Nyobe came down hard on the open landing zone of the clan where the whole Skydancer flock was grazing with Auriela and her son Raln. Auri approached the younger dragon and handed her pearl off to Aaron to hug Nyobe, telling her that only one egg had hatched and the other two were still cracking their shells, and she shouldn't have been gone so long alone hunting, it wasn't safe. No comment was made on the bag of her things Nyobe carried.

Nyobe went to the nest where two eggs had cracked, their snouts sticking out to breathe the smoky air and Rakeshi cleaned and preened the beautiful feathers on one baby held between his feet. Her name was Eliana, and it meant light. The elder dragons of the clan may have helped, since his thought for their first daughter's name had been Awesome. Hugging over the small baby, with her hot Fire tears flowing, Nyobe helped preen her first daughter and then fanned the remaining eggs to bring them air to breathe.

Soon after Eliana, Nyssa and Bhavisha hatched, their first sight their mother tending them. Rakeshi agrees that the important thing isn't that she left, it's that she came back.
