I have never been without these flowers.

Always they have sprung up, wherever I take residence. They comforted me in my solitary childhood, and now are a source of wonder to all who see them. Hatchlings and dragons alike have come to me, asking: What are they? Who are you?

What can I tell them, other than the truth?

I first opened my eyes in a field of gold. I did not know, then, that it was mine; only that I was alone, and cold, and sad. My tears ran down my face, and into my fur.

But the flowers bent their tall stalks, and turned their heads to me, and whispered consolation. You are not alone, they said, sighing in the breeze. We will always be with you.

My garden announces my presence, wherever I go in this world of Sornieth. I have learned to fight, to defend it; not all who see these flowers cherish them as I do. Only then do they draw back, to allow me to strike; when the battle is over, they rise around me once more.

What are they? Who are you? The answer is simple. My flowers and I - we are one, and we are loved.
