In all the centuries that wyverns reigned as the true rulers of the skies surrounding Shal’anir, for every one that soared high, another would fall. Every name remembered is another forgotten, and another era beginning ushers the end of the last. With Ka’avak and her prodigal clutch now flying high and announcing the return of wyverns to their true home, not many stop to consider those who came before.

Mah’rukh is one of those who came before; plummeting to his death alongside his rider during one of Shal’anir’s royal crusades long before Ka’avak was much more than a tiny hatchling. He was even larger than she in life, almost double her size and triple her wit, and was the true king of the skies above all else. Had the two flown together in the skies, their inevitable battle would have been legendary, but Mah’rukh was bested before Ka’avak could ever have risen to challenge him, and, in death, there’s not much left to challenge.

Mah’rukh is now a spirit residing within Shal’anir. Having long since remained in the spirit realm to watch over the shaded behemoth that he’d fought to protect in life, the wyvern may no longer have been able to rend his foes limb from limb, but, being a spirit, he could now battle with the spiritual forces that acted against Shal’anir with just as much ferocity as he did in life. For centuries after his death, Mah’rukh fought against the forces of the Shade that manifested itself beneath Shal’anir’s roots - purging her halls with his spirit fire that burned only those corrupted by the cursed element, and buying the great tree years in time as to allow her to heal and come back from the damage constantly being done to her. In more ways than one, Mah’rukh was, and still is, instrumental in her survival and failure to succumb to the corruption within, and it’s not a role taken lightly.

APPEARANCE
Twice the size of Ka'avak, although his full girth is never really seen, Mah'rukh's spiritual form is almost identical to his original body. His scales are iridescent white, with the softest highlights of blue and purple shimmering beneath the surface on account of his spirit fire, and he's an undeniably handsome creature. Has a noble face and gentle eyes, despite the breed's general aggression.

PRESENCE
Mah'rukh's presence is a commanding, but kind, one. Although only very few dragons have ever seen him, those more sensitive to the other side may be able to occasionally sense that there's another watching them. He's mostly just a benevolent spirit, having attached himself to Alastor as his anchor, but is powerful enough to 'wander' to other areas of Shal'anir at will.

TELEPATHY
Wyverns cannot speak despite their sentience, nor is their level of depth as refined as modern dragons, but Mah'rukh is aware and sentient on the exact same level as modern dragons. Although he was unable to in life, in death, Mah'rukh has been blessed by Shal'anir with the gift of telepathy, and is able to 'speak', as it were. He does so rarely, and has a deep, resonating voice that's felt as much as it's heard.

» Notes «

━━━━━━━━━━

- Breathes spirit fire, which only burns the Shade/those infected by it, and doesn't touch mortals or those who are pure
- Watches over Ka'avak with some pride, as well as her two followers, and has revealed himself to her before
- He's one of the few dragons who Ka'avak doesn't immediately display aggression towards, and the two have a mutual understanding of one another
