As firstborn of his father, he had been chosen. He had been gifted with genes and issued with apparel. Everything was set. But the waiting was intolerable. At times like this he chose to reflect upon his life.

He'd never known his mother, she left on his hatch day. She had been sent for training under his father before returning home to her clan. All he knew of her was that she had been beautiful Tundra and a force to be reckoned with, so much so she had captured his father's attention and he had taken her to nest. Resulting in Zephyr and his two siblings.
Zephyr would have liked to know his siblings...
He had both a younger sister and brother, but being the one chosen for training he had been raised separately from them. So really all he'd ever known was his father, Vaun. He often wondered if that was how it had been for his father with his grandmother, Syn. Being from a one egg nest he supposed it must have been that way. But he'd learnt long ago not to ask questions. Questions were answered with stern glares and swift punishments. If not from his father, then from Lancer, his father best friend and second in command.

"You will begin study for your upcoming training" his father had told him. "I am bringing in a strategist. You will listen to her and follow her instruction as you would mine. She is, of course, one of the best."

"Yes father, of course." He'd replied. But as always, his father's keen eye missed nothing...
"You do not approve of my instruction?" His voice was calm, his gaze shielded. Never a good sign.
"Of course, father. Whatever you say is best. I was merely curious as to why I won't be learning from yourself or Lancer."

"Because we are too busy." Vaun's tone brooked no argument. "We have real training to attend to on the field. If you are deemed ready then you'll join us." With this he turned away. Knowing he was dismissed, Zephyr left to await further instruction from this mysterious strategist who was soon to arrive.
