Biography
Merbogs diverged early in the Bogsneak phylogenic tree as their more primitive water-dwelling distant relatives. Sharing modern Bogsneaks' love of plants, Merbogs heartily enjoy munching on kelp. Because of their love of seaweed, Merbogs often spend their days gliding through the hundreds of kelp forests that exist in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. They are agile, and move fluidly through the water, propelled by their large wing-like fins, fins which later evolved into the regular wings of land-dwelling Bogsneaks.
Merbogs have had a somewhat complicated history in terms of relations, what with being somewhat of a mélange between regular dragons and Maren. Over the centuries, both sides have asked for Merbogs' aid for fighting, but after suffering devastating casualties in the Great Abyssal War of the Second Age, Merbogs unanimously decided to forego battle completely and take better precautions to avoid the attention of either faction.
Today, Merbogs generally try not to interfere with either side, as they are aware of their vulnerability, and strive to go through life peacefully, eating kelp in great quantities and playing deep inside the kelp forests. Many Merbogs enjoy the company of seals, who commonly hang out inside the beds as well.
Besides eating kelp leaves, Merbogs use the tougher kelp stalks for weaving. Kelp stalk baskets are used for storing valuables such has sunken treasure, jewels, and seashells. Kelp stalk cocoons are woven as a more confined way for sleeping. Although Merbogs spend most of their waking hours in the massive kelp forests, they sleep inside underwater caves. If the scent of a Maren or dragon is discovered too near their homes, Merbogs quickly gather their possessions and leave for new caves.
Merbogs are a recently discovered species, as they were thought to have been extinct after the Great Abyssal War of the Second Age. It's a treat for sea-dwelling dragons to find emptied caves with clues such as kelp stalk woven items, with even fewer having ever seen a Merbog face to face.
