Biography
Shale, the Cursed One
Former engineer of the Tempest Spire, now amateur gemologist of the Windswept Plateau
Once a diligent worker at the Tempest Spire under the command of the Stormcatcher, this Lightning Tundra lost his job after a tragic event that still plagues him today.
Bitten by an Onyx Cobra during a search in the Highland Scrub for a machine piece he needed to get, this nonchalant Tundra became unable to fly due to the heavy rocks binding him to the ground. This day, he felt the poison run though his veins in horror before he could kill the scaly beast, his heart pounding wildly in his chest.
He knew what the risks of such a bite could have on him, and he lived in the fear of witnessing its effects.
Days after days, heavy black gems began to form all over his body, slowly but surely prisonning him in a trap of charcoal-like crystals, pinning him to the ground by their weight.
With dread he realised that this curse wasn't going to stop until he died.
"No... no ! I can't continue to live like this ! I cannot ! I need to find a cure, something, anything to help me ! At this rate, I will die if I do nothing ! " He realised, hopeless.
He pleaded his Deity for help, for protection, but only the rumble of thunder answered his pleas.
He knew he wouldn't get any help in this wretched land, so with the little power he still had in him he leaved his home to never return again.
With his wings getting heavier and heavier by the day he travelled slowly to the west, crossing the burning territory of the Ashfall Waste before entering the cooler and calmer region of the Windswept Plateau. He could feel it, it was much closer to the climate his body was adapted for, and with his wings tucked at his sides the wind couldn't bother him.
A clan welcomed him into its midst, listening to his dispair and fears with kindness.
The Oracle of the clan took pity on him and consulted the Deities and the stars for his future. Would he find a cure and live a better life ?
However, all she saw was an empty sea of void. Nothing could stop his misery. Nothing. He was fated to live his last moments chained to Earth, each day more painful than the last.
Depression finally hit him, and he decided to stay still at the top of the clan's cliff, like a stone statue looking endlessly over the horizon, his heart empty and hopeless.
One evening, a cautious Skydancer sat by his side, looking over the horizon in silence. Her form was slender, and she radiated a calm and majestic aura he never noticed before. Too weak to speak, he didn't move nor greeted her. He prefered the silence over vain words anyway.
They stayed like this for long minutes under the dying light of the setting sun, the winds speakings words incomprehensible for the mortals.
Finally, her voice resonnated in the thin air, gentle and firm:
"I know your burden and your scars, dragon of the lighting plains. It must have been difficult to carry this weight thorough your journey alone. But I'm not here to ramble about your past. Your life will not end up here, Shale. Hope is not dead, and I can feel a gentle soul inside your frozen self. What if I told you that you could still make the world a better place, and teach it all your knowledge ?"
The Tundra only turned his head to her,
